I first thought, I am not going to comment. I think I will stick with that decision.

Start a 455 rebuilding thread and add some incorrect info on cam setups or something. That should arise his spirit!

Hopefully everything is okay and he still checks in. There's not a whole lot of information available for someone building the older Oldsmobile hot rods, and he is very knowledgeable. I'm starting on my 455 powered 50 and I'm sure I'll have some questions for him. I tend to enjoy some of his 'tactful' responses.

I've got a feeling that you would get along great with a certain fellow on another forum...you'd be like twins.

Yes, if the person on the other forum doesn't like to have his eye poked by the guy answering the question, which is how Mr. Norm usually answers questions on here, then, yes, I'd be glad to be twins with him every day of the week.

He was not one to beat around the bush and as such he perhaps alienated a few with his direct manner.Being far from an Olds expert, I thought him to be quite knowledgeable.

Was he knowledgeable? Yes, yes, yes.
He also was abrasive at times which put some people off.

The thing is, is that he had been there. That was readily apparent and there was no question there was a lot to learn from him.
If he returns not, I will miss his posts, and his flag waving.

Jim

I was amazed at all the automotive info Norm had learded from his grandmother... How many women were that into cars back then?
Way cool if you ask me!

He lives out here and it's been awhile since I've seen him as well. I think I get a vid of him racing his '50 about 10 years ago, if I remember, it was a 10 sec car. He knows his stuff and knows what works. Period.

Lady, my Mom was an NHRA Super Stock racer from '63-'68, they ran a '63 Z-11 Impala. I also found out this was 1 of only 3 blue Z-11's sold in Ca. I've only found 1 pic of the car on the www. I was told that it got sold then later junked. Here it is. Z-11ErniePorter.jpg She told me this pic was taken at the US Nationals in Ohio. Lloyd Porter was her husband at the time and his Dad, Ernie Porter owned the Chevy dealer in Pasadena. This is the dealer in what I'm told was the early 60's at the Rose Parade. ernieporterchevy.jpg Mom taught me the proper way to shift my first '66 442, hehehe, kick n pull she would say then demonstrated for me!

Kurt is still around, but not as much as before. Last post was June 2.

I was in touch with him earlier this year and we shared some thoughts. He has his reasons for limited visitation to CO, one of which is his work load and car related personal interests. Those issues are his and I don't feel it is my place to post details. I am always impressed with Kurt's knowledge, personality, hobbies and willingness to share information. Kurt has always tried to correspond positively, and is a great trouble shooter - knows how to get to the heart of the problem and offer genuine and practical solutions. Not trying to pump him up, but he has been a great help to me in the past and I miss him too on this site. I believe he will throw in his comments when he feels it is appropriate. In the meantime, I salute him and respect his wishes.

As far as Norm goes, no I don't miss him or his pious attacks on people. His holier than thou attitude has rained down on too many people including myself to make me feel anything appreciative about him, no matter how knowledgeable he may be. I seriously considered quitting CO because of him. IMO, he did more to discourage, drive away or upset members than he contributed on the positive side. To those who know him in a different way, good for you.
