More trade stock added to the clutter, a 1967 Toro 425

Yesterday I went to look at an engine advertized as a 455 with C heads. It turned out to be a 425, but I bought it anyway. This afternoon I unloaded it from the pickup and began looking it over. I was pleasantly surprised to see how clean it look under the valve covers and am thinking it must have been gone through sometime in the past. No ridge, but there is fine rust on the cylinder walls. I pulled a couple of the lifters and found they're the larger ones. My cheapo micrometer showed them being over 0.9 inches. I'll probably use the heads, but the rest of the motor is available for parts. I tried to get on the wiki site to refresh myself what years/engines used the larger lifters but it's down at the moment. Would someone that knows please reply to this thread and post it? There's no dish on the lifter face so they may be in good shape. I know these are spendy new, anybody doing a budget rebuild and need these? John

Thats a Toro 425. Nice find! High compression. Should be big valve heads.

Yes it does have the large valve heads and very little dish in the pistons. I haven't pulled the bottom end yet but so far it looks like low miles since it was apart.

Update on parts, the front motor mount, harmonic balancer and pushrods are spoken for. Once I get it fully torn down I'll post the parts under the parts for sale section with prices and more pictures. But if your needing something your welcome to let me know now and I'll give you first dibs. John

I'm guessing someone bolted a non-Toro starter to it so they could do a compression test on an engine stand. Since the Toro starter bolts to the transaxle they had to do this. It does have the larger oil pan from a Toronado, Except for the starter everything looks as it should coming out of a Toronado engine compartment. John
