Olds Cutlass/442 custom interiors ??
Does anyone know of any online or any members who have them??
I found a custom 442 interior way west of me SOMEWHERE between
Chicago and Rockford I think , but can't find the damn website or pictures
anymore. It was very well done. Orange custom paint exterior.
Looking for ideas for a custom interior. Any and all pics welcome.
Door panels, seats, headliner, console, dash gauges, etc.
Even a custom GTO or Chevelle interior will be fine since they share the interior dimensions.
Just looking for something crazy and wild and cool.

For 70-72, or other years also?
Friend of mine is doing a custom interior in my 65, never knew all that this would entail. I imagine with a finished, running car like yours it would be easier. This guy is not computer literate, but he can sew a damn nice looking interior, has a hell of a scrapbook. Many older experienced interior guys can do stuff like this, and know what looks good, and what does not. I will have more than $3k in the interior, though when done.
Don't tell me about my lousy steering wheel, I know it.

DUDE!!!!! Where did you get those carbon fiber inserts!?!?!?
Primarily for my body style I'm seeking.
However, I really dig the work you've done so far.
I'm looking for ideas on a custom interior console and door panels.
I'd really like to see more of how he made your package tray.
Those OER craptastic POS things they sell are junk.

Curtis bulk purchases some kind of fiber board. It's not wood, not cardboard, something between that local bulk shops sell. The panel is 2 layers of the stuff. He measured off the car what he needed, cut out the bottom portion, did the same with the top part, except he opened up for the speaker. Foam layer, then material, spray glues everything, then punches holes for accesories.
If you want to talk to him, pm me, and I will give his phone number so you can contact him.

Even though it's just a sticker, that picture looks real.
Plus like you said, the stuff we get at the repop shops is all sticker BS too.
I just bought all new "faux wood" trim replacements and it was ~$150.....total ripoff.
I actually would love to see the post - install pics of your detailed stuff.
Very surprised how good it looks for stickered CF. I think it looks waaaaaay better then the faux wood vinyl OER crap.
I'm just curious.
How did you cut it all to fit?? How did you template it ??

Light spray of water, laid it on lightly, press from the center out. Use my thumbnail to press in the corners, etc, then trimmed with a razor blade. The other option would be butterfly cut and epoxied birds eye maple. Looks nice but LOTS of work.

Aces - there was a guy in Aurora I sent someone to that seemed reasonable - he was happy with their work, but that was about 10 yrs. ago - don't know if they're still there, and have forgotten the name, but they were right in the downtown area!

There's interior shops ALL OVER Chicagoland.......but it doesn't do me any good without snapshots of work in a 442, GTO, or Chevelle.
I've seen ALOT of very very ugly or gay looking custom interiors people paid HUGE $$$$ for blindly hoping.
I don't want to be one of those people.
There's a place called Riggs Brothers with 3 locations around Chicago.
I've used their St Charles location 2x now.
Going back for custom door panels with speaker 6.5" speaker pods for my 78z this winter.
However, no pics of any custom Chevelle, GTO, or Olds interior work is still a shot in the dark.
The car I want to emulate is the In Motion Chevelle's custom interior.
Page #6 and #7 show it all. http://www.chevelles.com/forums/show...=225232&page=7
It uses Corbeau LG1 seats, and a totally custom dash and center console.
They also use the Autometer Cobalt gauges which are LED through the gauge.
I have them in my 78z too......best gauges on the market IMO.
Tell me this interior isn't SICK!!!!

Then print out your
www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=225232&page=6
pic's you just posted, take them to your local shop, and ask them for prices.
If they can not duplicate, move on.
Like I stated above,
Dark surround, light inset= sinister look, which is obviously what you are shooting for.
Personal tastes are just that-GAY or not. Each upholsterer has his own too.
I wanted a clean look.
You need to find the guy who can envision what you're seeking, then reproduce it.
Then pay the man.
Each and every one takes an awful lot of effort.
Yes, that interior looks damn good.
Good luck,
Jim

This was my budget build, so I went with these, price is great, they work well, and lots of the hot rod guys reccomended them. They fit in the stock dash without any mods. Fuel gauge works with the stock sender too.

This is my 70 cutlass that I put 2005 GTO seats in. I had to cut the back seat down about 6 inches to fit height-wise. The factory GTO brackets where not all that hard to modify to fit my floor and then bolt down.
I took the car on a 1000 mile roadtrip with these seats and they are about the most comfortable seats I have ever sat in. They are all power and adjust everyway possible. I then made my own center console and installed it but I just realized I need to take some pics of that part.
The pieces in between the rear seat is styrofoam that I had wrapped after I cut and sanded then into the shapes I wanted.
And since this picture, I had the "GTO" panel on the front seats replaced so it doesnt say that anymore! Especially since I had a guy tell me I had the nicest GTO he had ever seen when I was getting gas one day!

Do you have pictures showing the installation process??
I'm REALLY curious how much leg room the back seat has with the front seats in the proper seating position for the driver.
Any pics ?? I've seen these in 2nd gen Camaro's and the seats are so big and bulky they kill rear seat legroom.
I have to agree with you that these are THE MOST comfortable seats GM ever made. My cuz has a 2006 GTO.
I'm REALLY curious how they look in your car though and I'm REALLY interested in seeing your custom center console.
I'm redoing my interior completely and I want to see how yours turned out.

It was actually pretty easy. The front bolt mounts are flat and sat right on the stok floorpan without a problem. The rear bolts brackets are kind of funky but I was able to bend them to fit the way I wanted and then I welded on a small bracket to reinforce them.
#21
Ok, cool sounds easy enough did you cut the 6 inches off the top or bottom of the rear seats? was that the only modification you had to make on them to get them to fit?

I need to get some pictures of the console in the car. I thought I had some but I cant seem to find them. Here is one when I was building it. I used 3/16 steel round bar to make the frame and then covered it with 18 gauge steel.
As far as back seat room goes, it is limited but not so much the legroom as the headroom. The seats are not much thicker than the stock seat but much more ridgid if that makes sense. So you dont sink into the seat like you do with the old springy seats. Basically if you are 5'8" or less you can sit back there no problem but if your taller then your head will probably be touching the headliner. Kids can sit there no problem at all. Legroom isnt all that bad unless the front seats are back as far as they can go. But if they are back that far then you really have somebody tall in the front seats.
#23
I took it off the bottom to simplify the upholstery work. The seats have a steel frame out of 1/4" or so round bar so it was pretty easy to cut with a cut off wheel on a grinder. The leather comes off pretty easy since it is held on with little plastic "hook" like things and then slips off over the top.
Its harder to cut foam and make it look nice than I thought it would be!

I am wanting to put a 90's style cutlass seat in my 72. I just need to do the measurements of the brackets before i buy. I like the side support they give.. and they came in white leather which matches my interior. Any body here got this style that could measure for me
