Looking for junkyards from Minnesota to Arizona

Me and a friend of mine are planning to leave the arctic tundra of Minnesota in January and head down to Arizona. We plan on checking out the auctions in Scottsdale. No you won't see us on TV bidding on the cars. The last time I went down there, we went thru Kansas and all the old cars had been crushed. We need a pair of 63 Chevy belair front fenders. Any advice on where a guy might find a rust free pair? I've been to Desert auto parts in Phoenix but figure a guy might be able to find them on the way down.
Thanks for any leads!!

Hey, wow am I jealous! I would love to hit Arizona yards again. I was out there in '04 and was amazed by what I saw. If only I had more time (and money!).

Anyway, the two yards that I had the most luck with were:

Desert Valley Auto Parts http://www.dvap.com/

and

Hidden Valley Auto Parts http://www.hiddenvalleyautoparts.com/

I hit some other yards too but didn't find anything and don't even remember the names. These two were that stood out above the rest.

Happy hunting!

76 Regency, I've been to both of those places, I guess they'll be my ace in the hole places.
Rob,
I'll be stopping in to see my Sister in San Antonio for a day or two on the way home. Do you know of anything down there?

Do go enjoy the San Antonio river walk - heck take the family and go eat there at the many good and cheap places there.
I went for new years back in 2003 and enjoyed it.

Be sure to brush up on your Espanol....

Oddly enough of all the years I've been in the classic car hobby, I don't think I've ever gotten anything from Texas. Mostly Arizona and California. Have you tried junkyarddog.com ?

Not many old-car yards around here, at least affordable ones...

Another good thing I'd suggest doing is searching on Craigslist here in Phoenix and Tucson. There's a lot of individual owned vehicles that you can pick up for cheap.

Thanks for the tip knighthawk. It really isn't out of the way too much. We can pull the fenders or buy them out right if he's got them.
I'm thinking that I need to borrow my wifes phone computer thing-a-ma jiggy, and figure out how to scan for local yards on my way down.
Thanks for all the help.

yup ! the guy says he 'should have some' , cost would be $200 to $250 each, depending on the condition. I would be willing to go there with you, just to walk around the yard again ! I been there several times, and would be willing to go there again !

We were planning on pulling the back seat out of my 2000 Buick ultra Park Avenue to try an save some gas money. I'm thinking it'll be about 4000 miles, so at 26 mpg compared to my 01 Sierra 4X4 that'll probably average 17 mpg, we'll save $300 in fuel and ride in comfort. If we find something that won't fit we figure we can find a terminal and ship it back to MN. and still be money ahead.
I hope I don't regret driving the Buick.

Take a roof rack in case you find a bumper, hood, or such. Or heck, put a whole car up there and drag it back like the Griswolds did with their 30' Christmas tree...

Got a trailer hitch? You can rent a Uhaul one way...

Yes, I do know that website. It sure is handy on the newer stuff.

Rob, LOL, I'll be sure to bring a bunch of bungy cords because I don't have a hitch.

That where i found all my olds stuff and my olds is a 70.

This site is actually alot of help on older stuff because where im at in utah all the junk yards around here only have 96 and newer parts and they dont let u walk the yard. This website is where i found my seats and console and ssII wheels.

I do wish i had all the time that you guys have though. but i have a job and respnsibilities.

DV has parts, and they know they have wanted parts.
Hidden Valley is just as bad.
I quit dealing with them.
Those places are exactly like a hot 19 year old girl who knows she's a 10. And all the horney guys drool all over her.
But, they are smart because they do not crush certain vehicles, they know their value.

Here are a few pic's from an unknown yard, elsewhere.

Take a guess on what the last car is.

Jim

Pretty close!

It was a 75 260 V-8, 5speed car.
ALL of the stick parts were removed
Clutch, pedals, flywheel, trans, shifter-everything.

Too bad.

All of these yards have heard of E-bay, BJ, and c-list. Their prices have gone up accordingly.

Jim

You got that right. They want ebay prices and make you pull the parts.

This is what you need. Granted, it was printed in 1999, but it would still be an excellent resource for finding smaller yards that you might normally drive by without knowing they exist.

I've got a copy, and use it whenever I'm out on a road trip.
