Pictures of painted engine and engine compartment
Does anyone have pictures of their painted engine or engine compartment? I am trying to paint mine but it is very difficult to do without completely stripping the car. I still have all of the components and stuff in the car and I dont have the skills to remove them at this point. I am doing the best I can under the conditions, but the paint jub is a little rough. Was wondering if anyone had any pictures of their engine and engine compartment projects that I could look at. Here is where I am with mine right now.

It looks like your off to a good start!

That looks really good w-30dreamin.
Just pop that strap for the oil pressure and water temp wires into the hole in the the top of the lift loop and you got it. Here are a few of my '71 two barrel engine and Sandy's '72 four barrel engine, both 350's. I painted mine out of the car and Sandy's in the car, hers looks better.
Yours looks real good so far dallasite21, it takes a little longer to mask and all that but you can do it without taking everything apart, aluminum foil makes good form-to-fit masking.
Is the red engine to match the car?

Mine sucks. i just saw some of w-30 dreamins pics... His looks great and mine looks like crap up close. First off I used a high gloss paint, and it bubled up in spots and is not smooth at all. I gue I can try to get it right the next time.

I haven't been able to find a replacement for that plastic wire holder.Mine is broke and will not stay plugged in.
Any idea who might have something like this in their inventory?

Clips and fasteners has them, you can get 50 for 6-7 bucks, always good to have a few extra around.
Fusick has them too.I ordered a box of GM wheel alignment shims from C&F last Tuesday evening and got them on Friday morning from California USPS.

You put the female end into the lift strap hole then snap the male end into it, they fit in any hole that size. The wire and line retainers on the center valve covers bolt on each side use those, core support in places, wherever they needed one. There's a larger type zip type strap if the positive cable runs across the valve cover for manual trans cars, think it's the white one on the linked page.
Remember to always put the wires through the strap before you snap it together.

I'm sure with time and effort you'll end up with a car that you'll be proud of showing. There's no challenge to getting a pristine car and showing it (although it's nice). The satisfaction comes from your hard work and when someone say's "Hey man, your car is beautiful." You can then take pride in you achievements. If you need help or suggestions, you've come to the right place. It doesn't matter what city, state, or even country people are from, we all love Oldsmobile's. Lots of people here willing to help...that's just the way we are.

I said YOU!!! See I give you credit! Hey now, mine wasn't too awful filthy - at least on top where I could reach, lol!!! YOU also paint them beautiful shiny!!!!! You are the man!! But I'm keeping her clean. I hate dust on the valve covers!

Just got a tip from the guy at Pep Boys. Brake Cleaner makes an excellent degreaser. It requires no rinsing and evaporates after use. I was using Simple Green but the cleaner is much better. I still don't trust spraying it so I shoot some on a rag and wipe the grease away.

With all of these beautiful engine bays being displayed here, I thought you could use an ego boost, aside from the new stuff, I have a lot of work to do
btw, a big thank you to Atdog for the beautiful air cleaner, and to Jamesbo for making it possible. I also have a new pair of valve covers to go on at some point in the near future also courtesy of Atdog and Jamesbo.
It is discouraging when you paint something, and then decide you don't like it, or something stubborn remained under the paint, or it was the wrong kind of paint altogether. It is trial and error, but I have found that the folks here really do a lot to minimize the error part.
in the words of my favorite fake scifi guy, never give up, never surrender...or something like that....
