Air Cleaner Paint... correct Red color or Body color (burgandy metallic)
I picked up a factory air cleaner assembly at a big swapmeet last weekend for my 66...
The Factory painted them an orange/red color. Attached is a pic of Richard's after he repainted it red (i like that better than the correct color).
Question is... My car is painted Burgandy metallic... Considering painting the new one body color after I have it blasted. Probably owuldn't consider it if the body wasn't already a red color...
What do you think? Should i go Factoryish Red or Body color Burgandy metallic? (obviously correctness is not a major concern)

What color will you paint the motor? The 1970 I have was customized in the early 1970's. It's factory color was burgandy mist and he painted the engine that too. Depending on what color you paint the engine, will the burgandy air cleaner look OK against it? John

Hummmm. It may not be correct for the year but I think either black paint or a chrome air cleaner would look nicer against a gold engine. Are you putting any other dress up parts on the motor or will everything be gold? Will the brackets (alternator, PS, etc.) be painted black? Any aluminum or chrome parts? John
Just my 2 cents, but I think if Richard's car was painted a dark color that air cleaner color would be kinda blinding. Oh well, we can see what other people think. Maybe its just my eyes this late in the evening!

i think if your engine is gold (original),and your air cleaner is original, it should be original colour, chromed top is ok, mine is aftermarket chrome

Air cleaner color.
If you're going for judging points with AACA or OCA would be best to make everything in the way it rolled of the assembly line. If you are looking for the wow factor, do what you like the best ! Before I started doing points judged shows with AACA and OCA My air cleaner was Painted the same as the exterior of my 72 Cutlass ! Got a lot of compliments on it. And it looked good over the GM Gold 350 engine ! I've attached a picture before I went back to black. But yes I do also still have the blue one !

Personally, I find "partial customization" to be jarring. I'd rather you do the whole engine custom, or none at all, or something remotely plausible (black or chrome).
Metallic burgundy is also a popular hotrod color and evokes that era, as opposed to 60s muscle, when used on customizing.
