73 to 77 versus 69 to 72 tilt column

73 to 77 versus 69 to 72 tilt column
Just wondering what’s the difference between the two groups of columns. I have access to a 73 to 77, I am wondering what it would take to put in the 71. Thanks advance for any info Brandon

It’s a bolt in. The tilt column in my 69 came from a 75 Cutlass. I swapped the lock cylinder and hazard switch button to keep the 69 look. My column has the dimmer switch on the turn signal lever, if your column has that feature make sure you get the jumper harness or you will need to make your own. You can take the column dimmer switch one step further and add the “flash to pass” by installing a dimmer switch from a 95 Cadillac Fleetwood. You need to add one wire (a constant power feed, the red wire at the headlight switch is ideal) to the dimmer switch connector. Once this is done, pull the turn signal lever towards you, the high beams will come on, regardless if the headlights are on. Release the lever. The lights go out. Pretty slick, and a easy 15 dollar upgrade.

I think you could swap turn signal levers, my column came out of a car with cruise. I used the “set” button as a trigger for my nitrous purge. Now that I have a actual cruise control setup on the car, the cruise lever is used as intended.

Now that I’m thinking about it, the turn signal lever won’t swap. On a column with no dimmer switch, the lever screws directly to the turn signal switch. On a column with a dimmer switch, there is an extra linkage. It’s been a while since I have had them both apart to compare
