Can anyone tell me the factory correct color of the oil fill cap on a 72 Cutlass with 350 engine?
TIA

Thanks guys. Mine looks like #2 as well but has been painted black. I have seen others at shows painted black and others painted the engine color. I think I am going to try and clean all of the paint off.

I believe these were painted engine color from the factory. They were all plated originally. Al

Will22,

Mine appeared to have been painted black as well, I just took some Carb. Cleaner and got all of the paint off and then washed it in the sink with hot water and a soapy SOS Brilo Pad. It turned out nice.

My 350 has cap #2. I don't recall if it was painted engine color or not when I got the car way back in the latter part of last century, but today it is the natural metal color.

Thanks again guys. From what you have all said coupled with pictures I have found, it looks like it should be natural metal color. I am in the process of trying to remove the paint from mine as we speak.

Well you have the correct style cap to start with. I can't tell you how many high dollar restored late 60s - early 70s 442s and W-30s I have seen with the cap below on the engine:
