Anybody else with a 2019 Ram 1500

and transmission problems? Here is a post I shared on a Ram forum-

Bought a 2019 Ram 1500 classic. Truck often will not go in D with the shifter ****. It moves to D but is not in gear, give it a little gas and watch the RPM's increase but it will not move then all of a sudden it will LAUNCH into gear, totally unsafe and dealer and FCA are clueless. And of ZERO help. Read online that this is happening to many. Took truck back to dealer and was asked very flippantly " do you know how to use the ****? we could find nothing wrong" never mind this is my 3rd ( and my last) Ram 1500. I have a video of this happening, they were not interested, guess they'll wait until there is an accident or death and get sued. VERY UNSAFE!!!!! if someone or something was in front of the truck they / it would be hit and run over. I asked my dealer to acknowledge in writing that they have been alerted to this issue so the onus lies with them, still no reply. The other part that REALLY sucks is the customer service at the dealer, the Chrysler Forums and the 5thgen forums. Admin always responds with "contact us via PM to escalate" they have not given me access to PM so here I sit. Also reposted on the forums begging for admin to contact me, been days. Really nice!!! IF ANY OF YOU SITE ADMINS SEE THIS I WANT HELP!!!!!!AND I WANT MY TRUCK FIXED!!!!! 50K FOR A TRUCK THAT CAN'T BE TRUSTED, YEAH RIGHT......Anyone else having issues like this?Quote ReplyReport Edit

Does FCA have a Customer Assistance line that you can call to open a case? I know whenever I've had issues with a GM new vehicle and the dealership wasn't resolving the issue, I always started a case with CAC.

The Ram Classic is the older DS platform, so you would think that the bugs would be worked out by now. Sorry you're having problems, and I hope you get some satisfaction eventually.

Unfortunately FCA doesnt own the dealerships. AS mentioned above, call FCA Customer Service in Auburn Hills, and find out what the lemon laws are in your state. Start a paper trail of all correspondence. Take Video of the problem, save them to a hard drive.Do you have another Dealership you could try. You DO NOT have to take it to the place you bought it from.
Is there another choice for forward motion mother than Drive, like Low. Do you have the paddle shifters?
Check your owners manual, see if there is a manual override, some vehicles(SUV's) have a manual override in them.

Good luck

all sounds like typical dealer response to known issues...my bro just got a 2019 ram ill check w him n see if hes having any issues.

my wifes car has keyless entry/ignition, many times it will state key not found and she has to stick the FOB in the dash to start the car (somehow this is an issue for her ?) anyway the dealer acts like they have never seen or heard of this problem but the internet has, apparently all the way back to 2005...unfortunetly unlike many of the common issues that you can find a resolution to this one does not have a single documented fix that i can find...maybe thats why the dealer is playing dumb!!!

Funny you should mention that. My rep for Woods equipment buys only Chevy trucks. I am Chevy truck driver also. We both had the same color double cabs. He was mad that his blew up the trans at 115K. So he traded it for a 2019 Ram quad cab. I was teasing him for doing that, he said stop I am already paying the price. 350 miles it's in the shop because it's not shifting into gear or delays and then jumps into on it's own!

As a 21 year employee of the Kokomo Chrysler transmission plant, this pains me. If your having no luck with your selling dealer, take it to another dealership. I’m pretty sure there is a phone number in the owners manual for your zone office. Keep bothering people until someone decides to do the job they are paid to do.

We have had very few issues with our 2017 Challenger GT with the same ZF 8 speed. Other than a slight hesitation under heavy throttle in the cold, awesome all around, better than the Nag 1 that is replaced. I see the 2019 Ram's have an E shifter, electronic I take it?

Thanks for all the reply s. I have reached out to FCA, ChryslerCares and the dealer as well. Nothing has been done or offered to be done yet, actually still waiting for some kind of reply. No paddle shifters. When it did it again yesterday I turned the **** to R then back to D and that worked twice- I'll try it again, 1970cs, ask your bro to try that on his truck. Not a repair of course but the problem sure sucks to have to deal with. I do have and have saved videos of the issue, Dealer was not really interested in seeing it at all. I do know I can go to another dealer, I kind of like roasting these fools a bit with reviews etc. They have been pretty good to me but are spinning their wheels now. I will keep on them as it needs to be fixed. Pretty sure the 2019 has the next gen 8 speed transmission so it would be different than the one in your 2017, therein lies the issue. I had zero issues with my 2014 and 2016 rams with the ZF 8 spd. Watching the ram forums and there is pretty much a new person each day stating the same issues.

i checked in w my bro 2019 ram 1500 less than 500 miles no issues to report, but he will LMK if he does have a problem now that i mentioned it....I gotta state i dont care for stupid stuff like a **** in stead of the column or floor shift, whats the point ? IDT it can be cheaper it must have a motor that moves the trans selector instead of a linkage (BTW those linkages have worked flawlessly since i dont know when) menawhile motors have been somewhat problematic on transfer cases since they took away my damn manual locking hubs.....arghhh excuse me while i go yell at the sky for while

These transmissions are all electric, the **** sends a signal to the trans computer, which signals a solonoid in the valve body. So the issue could be the knoe, or wiring, or computer, or solonoid, or valve body. What really sucks is that Dealer service Techs don't get paid for diagnosing problems, only for repairs. If its an unknown problem, nobody wants to spend time figuring out the issue. Not very helpful to maintaining a happy customer relationship.

We have a 2019 1500 ram in the shop. It has 2k on it. Alternator sounds like a wood chipper already.

Chrysler’s are not known for quality, especially transmissions, but they sure look good! I think I even heard the Challengers had tranny problems.. Doesn’t anybody read consumer reports?

Yeah, some Challenger's had low speed shutter issues, ours has been flawless. I love the shifts and gear ratios on the ZF 8 speed. I hated the shifting on the GM 6 speed. The 5.3/8spd was much better but supposedly there have been issues with them. Now they have the Ford designed 10 speed.

Co developed by Ford & GM. Tweaked for their own applications.

Video it and get that on youtube, then go tweet on their twitter feed the link. That is the best way to shame people fast.

Also, don't talk on the video, just SHOW what it does in 30 seconds or less, maybe with some text overlay. You're looking to catch the attention of the ADD, you have 20 seconds or so. If you do it right, they will be begging you to take the video down that afternoon and promising you a new truck and two hookers.

Actually Ford did the 10 speed rwd/and and GM did the FWD 9 speed transaxle. Engineering lead was the wording and I believe Nissan and Toyota will also use it. My point is why be so loyal to GM or any manufacturer? Buy the vehicle you want, don't worry about what name is on it, looks it will be like a big GM of old. Unique motor, different sheet metal and the same transmission tweaked for each brand.

Chrysler waited until Anton Yelchin (Pavel Chekov in the Star Trek movies) was killed by his Jeep before they fixed that shifter problem. Or at least that was the perception. Bad optics. You'd think they would learn. Hope they fix the truck soon. I have been driving Ram 2500/3500 trucks at work for the last 10 years or so and can honestly say they are miserable but getting better. The frame is brutally strong, mine stopped the Freightliner that hit me, but the drive train feels like it is designed by children.

Phhpptt that ford 10 speed aint all that .....unless you like lightening fast down shifts and upshifts sometimes two gears at a time with seamless transitions between gears, and three overdrives who needs that, all it does is offer up some damn impressive fuel economy and make highway cruising at 70mph a quiet and efficient affair....

alright now back to the dodge thread

Contact the regional service rep. if you can't get anywhere at the dealer. Also as suggested above go to another dealership. There is already a paper trail from your service visits and in there are the cannot duplicate or such remarks by the techs.

Actually Ford did the 10 speed rwd/and and GM did the FWD 9 speed transaxle.
Yes, Ford was the lead on the 10 speed, and GM on the 9 speed. They both had their engineers involved in both transmissions. They both use the 10 speed, with tweaks for their own application. Ford backed out of using the 9 speed transaxle. The 10 speed debuted in the Camaro ZL1 for GM. Honda & Toyota will also use a variant of this transmission. Ford is currently having problems with their version of the 10 speed. It does not appear from the posts here that the RAM transmission is the problem, but rather the hardware used to engage it. I would think that if there is a serious problem reported by enough of owners of these trucks, then more will come to light on the cause. Hopefully no one dies or is seriously injured by this problem in the meantime.

I wish that I could, passed onto me by a long time engineer friend @ Mahle. We were talking about this joint venture awhile back, and he mentioned that Ford was having problems with their version, but he did not specify as to what it was.

Just a goggle search turned up with not being in intended park position, creating a potential no start on the F-150 and potential roll away on the Mustang.

I saw that re park, there was a recall and some associated bits were redesigned, but I haven't seen anything recent, that was year old news!

just wondering if there's anything newer related to the trans, I got mine in November and only have 6k on it, but by most measures it's pretty sweet.

I talked to my my Woods equipment rep the other day. The fix is re-flashing the ECM. The idle has been a touch to low to fill the clutch packs in a timely fashion, causing slow or delayed engagements.
