Air cleaner ID needed. Will it work with OAI top and HEI

Anybody know what this air cleaner is from? More importantly does it look like it would work under an OAI top in a 70 Cutlass with a 455 HEI?

Looks like the passenger the side snorkel would be good. I know the later olds air cleaners have a drivers side snorkel. Is that factory clearance for an HEI distributor or did somebody modify it? I think it would work but maybe you guys know something I don’t.

It's definitely from a 75+ model. The giveaway is the stamping for the HEI. Will it work for OAI? Maybe. But why wouldn't you just use a 70-72 455 Air can and add the extra drain holes in the bottom and side vent?

I don’t have 4 barrel air cleaner My motor and car were both originally two barrel motors so I have two of those. An orange one from the 68 455 and a black one from the 70 350. I might be able to get this one at a good price.

AL the 70 to 72 ones need surgery
SEE BFH
or cut out to clear HEI

That may not be factory oldsmobile piece
if not much money
Buy IT and try IT

Brian, that's exactly what I did with one of mine. Surgery. Doesn't need to be really invasive either. I sealed the hole with metal tape and painted it black...

I think I’m going to buy it and try it. As long as it looks close my car was born a Cutlass Supreme sonit doesn’t have to be exact. I was just hoping there wasn’t something I missed that would make it not work.

I would buy the OEM GM air box with provision for HEI
Instead of buying and butchering a 70 to 72 $ 4 bbl air cleaner
especially if the price is nice

My 1972 now has an air cleaner scott winn sold me
HEI unit with snorkel on left
I would rather have one like 455 guy found

I agree, but I did that conversion about 10 years ago. I still have some pristine air cans I can use when I yank that stupid HEI out. I plan to put an SMT dual air cleaner on even though it's not correct.

So I was able to get it at a good price. When I get it I will check how it fits. I probably won’t get the top for a few months though.

Looks like the snorkel is closer to a 350 four barrel air cleaner. It’s hard to tell from the pictures but the 455 air cleaner snorkels appear to be wider. If anybody has the 350 or 455 Olds air cleaner if you could post the measurements of how wide the snorkels are on both ends and how long they are I would be curious to see how this one compares. I’ll post pictures of this one with measurements as soon as I get it.

I’m still curious what the original application would have been for this peice too if anybody knows.

I have a offset breather that Olds designed for HEI, Not sure what year they made it but I have kept one just in case, but with my health going down hill fast I don't see me using it, if anyone is interested I can post pic.

I would be interested to see how the shape and size of the snorkel compare to this one.
