Anyone have much luck with a chrome t-stat housing? One brand better than the other ?

They tend to leak due to electrolysis. When I bought my 70 it had a chrome housing but it leaked, I sanded down the mating surface, sealed it but it eventually leaked again. I also had the original in a box of parts that came with the car. I cleaned it up real nice and put the original back on. It never leaked since.

The only one I could get to seal is the expensive RobMc one. For some reason I need multiple gaskets and RTV sandwiched in between on aluminum manifolds with a 16 pound cap with anything but the iron housing, using a factory aluminum housing on the Performer. Switching to a 7 pound cap made sealing much easier for me in multiple places.

The aftermarket ones are crap. Get a stock cast iron t-stat housing plated and you'll have no problems.

Thanks for the input guys, The aluminium swivel from Robbmc is nice but a bit much for the $$ and its function. I will just buy a stock cast iron one and look into having it plated or shoot it with the blue engine block paint.
I don't want any headaches with the chrome housing if they are junk.

Cheers
Eric
