Aftermarket Cruise control for a 68 cutlass

Any input? Is there a decent set up available? Anyone tried any of the Summit kits?

I am also curious how well the Rostra kits work?

I don't have much to add as I haven't done it yet, but plan to.
But, Rostra appears to be the standard. Most kits appear to be relabeled Rostra units (e.g. detroit speed). It'll have some limitations since it's a generic aftermarket part, but I bet they work well with reasonable expectations.

Pretty easy. I wanted the control box hidden, I mounted it on the firewall, behind the wheelhouse under the bulkhead connector for the fuse box. That was the most difficult part. It requires a key on power source, brake light switch connection, and connect the speed sensor. Pretty easy all around

Stick shifts require a clutch switch usually, as well, if that is relevant.

I put a old school dana speedostat kit on a 65 Dodge and a 70 Vista Cruiser. I liked them very well. They aren't being made now but they come up from time to time on ebay.(Someone gets one as a gift and never gets installed). I have a extra one still in box and I guess I will sell it since I no longer own those cars. PM me if interested. Greg.

Sounds straight forward. How does the speed sensor hook up and what model did you get?

It has a speed sensor that screws onto the speedo cable, and a short extension to connect the sensor to the speedo gear on the trans. I don’t have the instructions handy, so I can’t help you with a part number. There are several options for controls, you can get a switch that clamps to the turn signal lever, you can wire it to a factory GM cruise lever (this is the method I used,I swapped in a later model column, I also made my own delay wiper system) there is also a small switch panel you could use.

I would go with the small switch panel and I like it just goes in line with the speedometer cable. Just post which part number it is if you happen to come across them. This looks like what I want

It will be a while before this becomes a priority for me.

Check out the Dakota Digital cruise control on their website. I compared it to the Rostra and the D/D system is going in my Starfire.
