Seems it was more GM's penny-pinching approach to development that was behind the problems, not anything that Olds engineers could do anything about.

The ad copy for the V6 diesel is bragging "....0-50 in under 13.5 seconds...", LOL.

Over at Cadillac they developed the HT4100 which was probably worse in that you couldn’t just toss the 4100 and bolt in a traditional Caddy engine and make it work. They supposedly quickly gained such a bad reputation that Caddies with the dependable 425 were not being traded in often.

Worst engine EVER. When I worked for GM SPO, we got so many calls for short blocks or long blocks that I warned everyone I knew to not buy a Caddy w/out knowing what engine was in it.

Interesting article, upper management probably rewarded themselves for such forward thinking. Then wonder why Toyota & Honda car owners have such loyalty. Good post, the comments after the story tell it all.
