'70 Cutlass Supreme Convertible W-31?????

Newbie here and to Cutlass. I just bought a '70 Cutlass Supreme Convertible project car in need of lots of restoration. It should be delivered to me on Sunday.

In a different post I had a couple of pictures of the engine casting numbers and Kenneth- Fun71 commented on the large oil pressure sending unit he saw in the picture and asked if it had the Ralley Pack Gauges

I went back yesterday to buy the car and took a closer look at the instrument panel. It definitely has gauges for the Oil Pressure and Water Temperature and not idiot lights and has a tach with the clock. Picture below.

The engine block casting numbers are 395558 which indicate it could be a W-31. I attached the Engine Block ID pdf.

Would having the Ralley Pack Gauges indicate that it has the W-31 option? What other reasons would someone add these special gauges to a Cutlass Supreme?

I haven't been able to find much info yet about what a W-31 means or how to determine if this Cutlass has that option.

Any info would be appreciated.

thanks,

Pat

The Rally Pac was optionally available on ANY Cutlass in 1970, and in fact the W-31s did NOT come with them as standard equipment. No W-31 convertibles were built in 1970.

.400" lift, 250º duration cam vs .474" lift, 308º duration cam. Not really that close.

actually, my Supreme is a later 70 production with a qb engine which uses a cam from a 69 400. Spec on that cam is .472 lift, 286/286 duration and uses a unique carb, p/n7043253 which has larger jetting. This engine was only available with 4spd and 3:42 and higher gear ratio. I believe there were only about 500 of these engines built so it might be a little closer to a W31 then you originally thought

Didn't see that it was a 4 speed. So yes it is a bit closer than the average 350-4bbl.

Your build sheet is a lot easier to read if you don't post the picture sideways.

Nice car with decent performance. Enjoy.

Ya know, I build an engine, trans or pretty much a whole car from the ground up but can't figure out how to flip a pic once it's uploaded here.
