Thoughts on freely giving authenticating knowledge for the cars

I had a thought. New poster, no pictures of this car he was considering, asking for worth. I mention a few things, but I deliberately avoided giving specific authentication details.

Of course, the next reply gave those details....

My thought is this. How many times have people come on here, and made a 1 post account, and gotten detailed instructions on how to clone? We don't know these guys from Adam, especially if there's no proof like pictures. Of course, pics can just be borrowed from some place. I know a few things I don't share, because of the chance for that knowledge to be used for cloning.

Or am I just paranoid?

Sometimes being paranoid is leget! I understand the guru's for early W30's keep a few details quiet just to help key out the real deal cars. This might be a little harder to do with more common 442's as there's lots of photos on the internet that could be downloaded. But asking specific questions might weed out some potential clones. We all like to see pictures of these cars so I don't see a problem asking to see photos before rattling off too much info.

It wouldn't hurt to ask a few questions before you give too many details.

A person up to no good can usually find what they want anyway. Sure, there are a couple things that are well kept secrets that are not talked about but very little.

I know what you mean. I once gave out information about my father's '71 Ford Pinto.

Next thing I knew, someone had turned this:

Into this! All the numbers match, too!!

Koda,
I don't think you are paranoid, we can never be too careful. I also believe I know the post that has prompted you to start this thread and I can ease your mind on this one. TDS_1 is purchasing my 67 442 convertible and we were trying to authenticate the car. I know some of its history but really wanted to check everything out and make sure it was what I have always believed it to be. TDS_1 is a great guy and will be a valuable member for the forum.
