I know I once found a site that listed information needed to decode cowl tags for Oldsmobiles, but I cannot locate it now that I need it. I am trying to decode a data plate on a 69 Olds 442 which indicates 52 as upper and lower body paint and also shows TR930 and 04B. Anybody available to help with decoding or pointing me to where I can do it myself. You know...."teach a man to fish"...Thanks in advance!!
try; datatagdecoder.com. Those sites aren't always that informative. You could do better posting the complete information from your tag here. Clear picture of your car and tag would probably a good discussion of the information you would like to know. The color code 52 indicates Crimson, interior is black with 04B indicating April week 2 build. Looking forward to more info.

Trim 930 means black vinyl interior.
Paint code 52 is crimson red. That it appears twice means both upper and lower body colors are that color.
04B is assembly date, 4th week of April.

Without another one to compare it to, hard to say. But the rivets look as old as the plate itself. I wouldn't suspect anything. Do you have a reason to be suspicious?

Jay, the reason the VIN plate looks funny is because it's missing the plastic trim cover that goes over those rivets and frames the VIN.

No reason to be suspicious, just didn't look right to me.

It's far more likely that the car has been changed than the decoding site is incorrect. It's not difficult to imagine that a car's exterior and interior could be changed. My '67 Delta 88 convertible came from the factory as "spring special," meaning yellow top, yellow interior, yellow paint. The car is now red with a brown interior and a black top. Lots can happen to a car in 50 years.

The cowl tag looks original to the car as evidenced by the cowl tag rivets. It's really hard to fake those and also the aging that goes with it.
Jay, the car has obviously been repainted. If it came from the factory with that paint it would be PNT code 11 11. It's not uncommon to have an interior change either, if a previous owner is flush with some cash. The car has a 455 in it instead of the 400 it was born with..
TRM 930 is indeed a black vinyl interior but specifically with A51 Strato Bucket seats. That was standard on the 69 442.
The hood stripes are obviously wrong and so is the deck wing but that's all cosmetic.
So the websight was right .
Actually it's not uncommon to restore a car in the color combination that the owner wishes .
If you gotta buy paint and upholstery anyway , it might as well be in a color you like .
