Here's something I'll never be able to unsee

To be featured at the Mecum Harrisburg auction, which will be going on at the same time as the OCA Nationals. Clearly only the finest craftsmanship was used on this "star car".

Mecum has really stooped low to include this POS. This thing should go straight to the crusher. You warned us Joe.

They should refuse to auction this car.

C'mon, you guys haven't ever gone to a bump and run race? Ever heard of the Gambler 500?

This car is what happens when car guys have leftover paint, time to kill, and a sense of humor. While in college and working during the summer, I had several friends that drove wonderful pieces of ****. A black and white checkered LeCar with functional, dual toilet seat sunroofs? Yup. A beat-to-hell 70-something Cordoba with the top cut off? Yup. A Citation with the top cut off? Yup -- and it had been a hatchback, not the notchback, so it was even less safe. Sometimes, when cars are close to the end of their life and you're a kid with a sense of humor, you do the dumbest things possible to the car in an effort to make your friends laugh.

I wish that were true in this case, but alas, no. This is a TV STAR from one of the many fine car-related shows on Discovery.

I think I caught the first five minutes of the first one of those shows and immediately decided not to waste time with it.

So Joe are you going to be bidding on this fine piece of history?
I think you can bid from the OCA swap meet area on line and hopefully sell enough parts to pay for it.
This would be a feather in your cap.....L.O.L.

It's likely the only way I'll ever own a "wing car".

This is clearly an example of a "niche car". It was built for a certain type auto enthusiast. Its wonderful that Mecum is offering this so a certain "clientel" can bid competitively for a "special vehicle". Not everyone would be proud to have this displayed in their driveway.

Most of that will just buff right out.... I didn't realize they sold 'project' cars that don't run. Having a fuel tank for a seat is always fun.

So was this, um, car(?) intact at some point? And in driving condition? If so, someone really went through a bit of effort to convert it to its present condition.

I think the record I ever saw was a Dodge Caravan, no roof, no windows, and all door frames cut flush with the windowsills. Partition put in behind the front row, all rear electrical routed under the body, everything caulked, shower liner put in, and a swimming pool made. I heard the weight of the pool wedged the front doors shut inoperable, so they Duke Boys'd it to drive.

Super/Olds factory R-orange and Pa-pa-petty blue. The speed hole in the fender is my favorite part.

But you were smart enough to not take it to an expensive auction house to try to sell it. If Mecum is that desperate to get cars in the door maybe they should have less auctions.

I wonder if we got to see this up close, if the prep time revealed a complete lack thereof. You know, grass clippings, road tar, bug guts, mud... all painted over.

It's perfect for the "Roadkill" series. Those guys would love to make something like that run. That is a beauty compared to some of the garbage queens they build.
