replacement fuel tank 1972 cutlass
Hi, looking for some feed back on replacement fuel tanks. I have heard that the new tanks do not come with baffling that the original factory tanks had, is this true about factory tanks having them or have I been being told a bunch of bull? I was looking at the AMD and Spectra Premium types , anyone use either of these and if so any issues? Thanks for your help.

Spectra....non chineasium Canadian made. Call their tech line and ask the question. Don't forget to follow up with that answer here for future searches. I'd be interested in this answer as well.

I got a Spectra and it's been great. TBH, I don't even know how or if it's baffled inside, all I know is it works just like the factory one and after ten years plus, it still looks perfect.

Spectra GM34R. Exact replacement fit for 72 Cutlass. I put one in my car and it fits perfectly. Only difference I can see is the fuel vent in the filler neck. Otherwise it's very close to being original. I kept my old tank and have it in storage. It actually has the part number stamped on it!

Here's what it looks like from Spectra Premium
Well packed in heavy box and extra protection inside.
This pattern matches the original tank!
Tank is sprayed with a waxy substance to prevent corrosion
Clear view of the 3 vents
Installed in car, used Patton Glades tank pad even though 72 never came with it. Original straps. Prior to installing Trumpet exhaust.

Allan R, did you use the insulators on the tank straps or just the straps? I was thinking of painting with tank tone, but on further thought I am looking into just using a urethane low gloss type clear instead.

The tank straps are the originals that came with the car. They are galvanized and all I did was clean them up and coat them with some clear coat. No, I didn't use any insulators. They aren't necessary. When that tank is strapped up it's pretty snug. The only insulator I used (as mentioned) was the tank pad from Patton Glade (70 Post on this site).

You will also notice there's a slight difference in the filler neck baffle. It doesn't affect filling though. It's just not exactly the same as original.

yellowrocket - the factory DID NOT use any material b/n the straps and the tank...not necessary as once everything is tightened up there is not any movement, rubbing, etc b/n the straps and tank.
Thumbs up to you Allan! Thanks for the mention.
