1970 442 Overflow position with washer bottle on passenger side

What’s up Oldsmobile friends!
I am installing an radiator overflow. I need to know correct way to install with washer bottle and smog canister all in same area. I bought overflow from the Parts Place it came with bracket and spacer. The directions do not have washer bottle and canister in it. I am trying to build factory correct car. I know I can do without canister and I know I can move washer bottle but that would not be correct. Can anyone please help with pictures or advice ? Thanks in advance!

When I follow directions everything seems to be bunched up. I’ve seen the overflow positioned sideways also but do not have brackets.

Not understanding what you mean...

>WHAT is "bunched up"??? Of course it is.....you have 3 different items all mounted close together.

>What do you mean when you say "....but do not have brackets"?? You show a black painted metal bracket in one of your pics.....so what are you referring to?

bunched up . Yes they are close together . Is that the correct way it was installed factory? Because there is no room to mount bracket on lower radiator support like directions say.

And the bracket i am talking about are sideways mounting brackets that I do not have.

70 model years did not come with an overflow bottle from the factory. Anything you do will be a custom application

Out of curiosity, when did Oldsmobile start with the overflow and how did they set it up. Thanks for the help

wow ok . I am assuming this must of been after 1970 because it was mentioned that an overflow wasn’t installed in 1970 . Do you know what year did they introduce the overflow? I always thought it was an option for 1970 . Thanks for info

overflow tanks were optional over the counter or dealer installed at owners request prior to 1973. and only mandatory in some states after 1973-74, then standard equipment per EPA regs. onwards. in 1970 it was over the counter option for everyone.
it was common to see the dealer relocate the washer bottle to drivers side when the overflow tank was causing interferrance installed. otherwise they have same problem as your having.

It was a dealer installed option starting in 1971. If someone complained about overflow, the dealer would install the reservoir.

My car is a CA numbers matching base 442 and this was with the vehicle ever since I’ve owned it in 1999.

1970 Cutlasses only came with the smog equipment if they were going to be sold new in CA. My 70 was built in CA but was sold new in Portland OR so it had no smog equipment on the P side. I see you are in CA so if your car was sold new there, then the canister would be correct

For another example, my 1970 was built in Lansing but sold new in LA, so it had the vapor canister.

Also have a '70 W30 with canister, just purchased a good used one because one fitting was broke. Thought that dealer would install overflow in '70 on the 455 if you were have problems.

What is the second hose?

I am installing the Fusick version of this overflow reservoir. What is the second hose for? Is that an overflow for the overflow bottle? Looks like it from the diagrams I have seen.

Yep, just incase you overfill everything, or overheat badly. Make sure you connect your hoses to the correct nipples. The one that connects to the long hose that goes to the bottom of the overflow tank connects to the radiator.

Just reading this now. My washer bottle was on the driver's side and had been there a long time on my 70 S. In fact so long it was basically yellow and brittle and no overflow bottle for the coolant. Good to know it belongs on the driver's side.

Yep, 350 cars go on drivers side, 455 cars go on passenger side. Ive been told it was an engineering change to clear the larger battery/tray used on 455 cars, but not sure how true that is. Assembly manual may shed more light
