Information for insurance in Germany
Good morning. To apply for an perfect insurance for the Cutlass,i do have to give as much information about the car to the company as possible. The point is,there is a special system for historical cars in Germany. We have to pay a
xxx/1000 from the cars worth a year.We would like to make the company find a high worth to give us the chance of renewing the car in case of an accident. The insurance rate will be still quiet low.I spent many hours on the screen without any results.I mean serious facts.Because there is no possibility of comparison,it`s not easy to us to vindicate a high agreed sum insured. In Germany it is very important, how rare(What ever that means) a car is!How many are known still on the road, production number and stuff like that.
Any information will help.Thanks a lot,Claudia&Martin
Our car again:Oldsmobile Cutlass f-85 convertible deluxe 1963.
Pics will follow in a week about The story how we found it as well.

Hallo Oldsguy
We haven`t got own made pics yet.But we try to send the pics from the dealers sold note. The workshop told us,the olds needs a new carburetor and he will get some new ignition parts. That will take another 2 weeks.
Regards,Claudia&Martin

welcome
This is a good site for general info on your car. You can always check online with antique car appraisers. One that is common is Manheim Gold Book there are a couple of others that are pretty good but they always give you 3 or 4 values depending on how original and how nice the car is. The top prices are reserved for what we call trailer cars and generally don't get driven . They are in as good a shape as new or better. We don't have many if any of those cars on this site as we like to drive our cars , though mine is just going to be a summer fun thing. Winter here brings too much salt .

It needs a lot to get a classic car registration:
- as original as possible
- no notice able accident marks
- no rust
- no holes from rust
- as complete as possible
- oirignal drivetrain
- original engine
- no patchwork welding works
- chassis without welding works
- car has to be older than 30 years
After a specialist has given his ok, the car gets an H on its license plate. All registrated classic cars cost 191,70€ tax/year. No matter how much power and cubic capacity.
The pre owner got the H!! But the dealer hasn't got any paperworks with the car except the vehicle registration certificate.
The top is allmost new and its cylinder,hoses....are just changed into new parts.
Thank you very much again for your interest,
Claudia&Martin

VIN #
You can get basic info on the car from the VIN # and can authenticate the type of car year made where built and # of car manufactered that year etc. Other #'s you can find original colour , options , motor tranny combo basically you can compare how original it is. joe pavado is the resident expert and lots of other guys on this site know their stuff about Olds. You can post in other forums like the tech reference to gather info. She looks like a real nice car and would probably be worth more there than in the U.S. because it would be more rare to find. Good luck and glad you already have your "H" plate? Here in canada I just have an Antique plate but have to go to an authenticated appraiser to get the value for insurance. It is cheaper with the antique plates but limits it's mileage you can put on anually.

She is home!!!
Yes,we did it today.Rode the olds home right into her garage.Ääähhmmm,Claudia did,i followed her in a second car as a guard. She is beautyful (both are)!
Oldsguy, the colour is original wedgewood blue and about 50% outside and all the paint inside the first original paintwork The respray is well done,it needs experiance to see the difference.
And now we have to make a confession
The day we bought the cutlass was no chance to drive her because the engine did not work,as a result we have never seen her from underneath
Claudia felt positive waves and we bought her dream
Today almost everything was perfect, even the sunny weather
Here are the facts:
We could find no rust at all, engine bay, booth, floor(underneath still original blue),chassis......Only TWO rusti dents in size of a dime on the left rear wing.
The chrome got picks only on the rear lamps.
The Dorchester carburetor is replaced by a holley.
The distributor is replaced by an electronic one.
The cylinder and the other parts for the roof have not arrived yet,so we will do the repair by ourself.
The old car is waterproof. On the ride home we got surprised by a heavy rain for a few minutesEverything OK.
We hope our report sounds not to braggyBut we are released from weeks of trembling uncertainty and its all true.We try to send pics later today,Claudia&Martin
