1970 w-30 stripes
Can some one tell what the correct width is for the wide part of the side stripe on the 1970 442 W-30 cars. Have the prints but I don't see where it shows me the width of the wide part of the stripe that runs from wheel well to wheel well--------thanks--------Greg

Check out this thread. Looks like there are some pictures and sketches with the stripe widths. Good Luck!

You say you have a picture, is from the assembly manual? If so it shows the measurements, there in decimal, and when you look, you will see that the size changes going over the wheel wells. need to get a assembly manual, or you can order a template.

Got one, but it doesn't say the width of the main stripe, it refers to. The layout which there is none ???

The "wildaboutcars.com" website has factory blueprints available to view for free. I had these images blown up,printed and laminated to assist in proper stripe location/dimension. Very good resource.

What Steven said....go with 2-1/4" tall on the wide stripe. That's what the stripe just measured with a caliper laid over the stripe in the middle of the door. Same white car as the one in the linked-to post....I know....that's my car and I took those pics/measurements. And...just measured the WIDE stripe in the middle of the door with a caliper......2-1/4" tall.
Yeah - it's correct......original paint car so no "revisionist history" here.
Remember - that measurement is with the caliper SPANNING the stripe. That would be ever-so-slightly-different compared to laying a tape measure down and following the slight curvature of the door skin (curvature up and down the panel).

I've noticed quite a bit of variances in dimensions as well as overall crisp quality of stripes on unrestored original cars. I think that probably most high quality restorations have much better striping than what rolled out of Lansing. It's hard for owners to knowingly reproduce defects on a high dollar restoration.
