Keep your GM car GM air cleaner decals

So I'm investigating getting these decals done. While several well known parts vendors offer them, they list them for 68-72 (or even later). The first problem, they are year specific. The second, 68 was a silk screen, not a decal. The one vendor that offers the year specific ones, they aren't quite right.

From the 70 PIM (section 6 for those scoring at home) you can see the two letter code and the part number they should be. Not the NJ code most places list for sale as the "one size fits all".

Here is the 4bbl non OAI ones

and here is the OAI one

and here are a couple decals on original and unrestored 70 W-30s

So, I'm looking at getting three codes done right now
OI
OP
ON
all with their corresponding part nbrs

These will be done on 3M vinyl and will be as close to accurate as can be.

I'm curious of any feedback or interest if I follow through with this (ie you would buy one, although not sure on costs at this time). Note, I can probably do other codes for 70, but I believe the above three would be the most popular. If enough interest I would look into 69 codes next. Then perhaps 71 and 72.

Thanks,
Chris

I'd be in for ones for my 70 SX 455 2 barrel, '72 455/TH400 A/C 442, '72 455/M20 non-AC, and '72 350 4 bbl. non-A/C (K code). A couple of mine are missing and a couple are faded, but I refuse to remove the originals when the only repro options are incorrect.

I would be interested. I think with a scanner and a color laser printer it shouldn't be too hard to reproduce these

Definitely count me in for a couple each of any you make. The most important detail wrong for me with the repros is they are too short lengthwise by at least 1/2 of an inch and just look small compared to a original one.

I looked into making these since I put the 68 air cleaner code back on them. Try OPGI they have these decals. It's not cost effective to make them when you can purchase something that's very close to the original for next to nothing.

Chris if you decide to move forward with the project I do have a designer that can make the project happen.

I have a roll of 68's somebody made for me here somewhere. I know they were silk screened, these were printed on clear. I should look for them!

I would have interest in 2-3 "ON" '70 decals depending on final "look", accuracy, quality, etc.

Thanks for the feedback guys. OPGI, the one place I didn't look at. I wonder if they made them or they offer the ones from Jim Osbourne. I may have to buy one just to compare. If it turns out the OPGI ones are "close enough" (and from the illustrations on their website, they are off a bit) I may not pursue this but we shall see. However, I have several other decals "in the queue" so to speak as the repros I bought aren't close at all to the original.

if you don't put them side by side, you probably couldn't tell even though something doesn't look quite right with the repro. but side by side, it's quite staggering. I've been looking at the 69-72 F-85 wheel and F-85 specialty wheel decals.

fonts are incorrect
sizing/spacing of the words left to right and top to bottom is off.
there is no "Printed in U.S.A." by the part nbr on the repro.

The picture looks pretty good though. When I'm back in town, I can start another thread with what I've found ... unless someone beats me to it :-)

haven't forgotten about these. I was able to look at a couple rather nice unrestored vehicles today, 12K mile 69 and 46K mile 68. I am going to look at getting these done. Once I get more details I will update the thread.

Wow! If you are planning to do the "OS" air cleaner sticker for the '69 400 engine (p/n 6484804), you can count me in for a couple of them!

another bump. I saw the first proof and some tweaks are being done. Not sure when I will have these, but they are getting closer.

If anyone has any specific year/code combination they want, please post and I'll check on the details for a second run.

Thanks,
Chris

Keep in mind any potential copyright infringement and licensing issues. I don't know how strict GM is on each of those, but Ford is relentless. It would seem to me that if the decals shown above were in fact licensed by GM that they would be correct in every respect.

I have a friend who wants to reproduce a part for old Lincolns. On non-safety parts, Ford gets a 10% licensing fee.

you need to do a 70 code, I'm sure many will take that.

Jon442, most repo parts are not correct, many are far from correct. I'm sure no one from GM checks or cares about accuracy it's the money they care about.

following up on the email I sent.

and also to let everyone else know. I just got off the phone with the person doing the decals. it's about a 50/50 chance I'll have them for MCACN this weekend. He's going to try, but we agreed not to rush just to get them done. I should know more in a day or two.

I haven't forgotten, just lots of things going in and the person doing them is busy also.

However below is how they look. Let me know your thoughts and please be critical. Depending on how many changes and schedules I could have these in my hands in a month.

One outstanding change is on the tire pressure decals. The last sentence which begins "For additional information" is not the correct font. I will be requesting that to be changed.

The spacing between each Keep your GM car all GM letter is too tight on the air cleaner decals. Note on the original decal the blue GM block logo goes from the middle of the O in Your to the middle of the space between Your and GM. Yours is centered over the word Your. Also the lower red wording doesn't extend past the Keep your GM car all GM. On your repro it does.

You asked. Might as well make it exactly correct right?
