Spotted this Jetfire at the Pate swap meet. Took some video of it. Heard it sold.

I believe the seller is trying to say that of the alleged 12 "still in original form" (whatever that means), there are four of those 12 with four speeds. Still pegging the meter, however.

That information was not known till about two months ago for 1963. More 4 speed Jetfires in 63 than anyone thought. 1391 of them made as a 4 speed. Only 203 of them in 62 are 4 speeds.

MANY Jetfire cars are converted to 4 speed because the automatic is troublesome. I personally do not know but was told that only 2 factory 62 4 speeds were known of and one burned up in a forest fire. After that the 62 4 speed I have was found so now there are two known of again. I would bet there are more out there somewhere but I also bet there are not very many more.

Lots more than 12 correct ones out there also. If you count 62 and 63 there are in the ballpark of 50 (likely a little less) with working turbos.

He didn't say "correct", he said "original form", which I took to mean unrestored. Of course, I also added the meter, so you know my position on numbers like this.

I have a '63 Cutlass factory 4 spd. conv. I know they build 12,147 convertibles. I was wondering how many 1963 Olds y bodies were built with a four speed?

931 total model 3167 (Cutlass Convertible) made with the M-20 4 speed. (M-20 was a T-10 in 63) 698 made in Lansing, 100 made in SO Gate, and 133 made in Kansas.

Do you know what Y-62 and Y-63 codes are? All my paper work shows is Special. Whatever it is, there were only 13 of the model 3167 made with it.

I should have said original form.... I took it as cars not converted to 4 bbl. But yes, he is full of it. On another note, there is a 63 here in Indiana with 3100 original miles on it. It is well cared for and properly stored. The turbo does still spool on it but I would be willing to bet him titles that the fluid injection is not working correct.

Where did you find this out????? This car has been in my family since 1978(My father bought it from a guy he worked with for $300.00 whose Mom bought it brand new from Norman Olds in Babylon N.Y) I never knew the amount of cars assembled with the four speed transmission. Let alone convertibles. They built 12,149 Cutlass convertibles not 12,147.

I had a member here help me out with the right connection at the GM Heritage center. I got this information from them. Helen Earley did not even have this information for the 62 and 63 model year. They later invited me to come and look at everything they have for the Jetfire model and will be going this fall. The only problem, I can share the information but not the documents.

From what I understand G.M. Option codes don't change year to year (Ex. code C-60 is air conditioning. M codes like M-20 or M-38 were code for transmissions).
That being said, As I understand it code Y-62 is special paint no charge and Y-63 is special paint charge.

I would like to know what colors those cars were painted??

Except when they did...

In 1969, RPO W39 was Deluxe Front and Rear Seat Belts.
In 1972, RPO W39 was the Hurst floor shifter for the three speed Muncie manual trans.

That's just one example.
