Emergency Brake Cable differences between TH350 and TH400 on a 70S

I know this has been gone through, can't find it. I have swapped in a 2004R, same placement as the TH400. I have seen where the cables have been looped to shorten them. I was thinking of the cable clamps to shorten them. I am finding my brake pedal at times is very spongy, the heavy rain was scary with the 4 wheel drum brakes.

I found a good picture, it looks like I just need to take the slack out of the cable but not so much to engage it.

If you went from the existing TH350 location to the TH400 location by installing the 2004R you need swap yours for this

And this

The cables at the rearend are the same for all Transmissions.

You're right, this has been covered time and time again. Parts are readily available from RockAuto and other auto parts stores. They are not expensive. It really isn't worth screwing around with a half-fast solution here. You need the front and intermediate cables for a TH400 application with the same wheelbase as your car. Obviously the 1970 cars could have come in one of three wheelbases (112" for 2dr, 116" for 4dr and flattop. 121" for Vista). The front cable only cares about TH400 vs other transmissions. The intermediate cable cares both about trans and wheelbase.

The front cable with TH400 is 50", Raybestos P/N 92407 (about $23). The intermediate cable with TH400 and 2dr is 82", Dorman C92352 (about $10). Ignore the RockAuto application notes, they are wrong as usual. These lengths come from the factory parts book.

Those are cheap and I only need 2 total, good to know. Thanks as usual, less than $100 shipped isn't worth my life.

Took me 5 minutes with a 50 cent cable clip to get a working emergency brake. Eventually I will get the proper cables.

I recently changed my th350 to th400. What's the length in inches for intermediate cable for the th400? The th350 (95 1/2 inches, at least for mine) is too long now 'coz of the change-up in transmission. The car is 1971 cutlass supreme 455 automatic. Any input is appreciated...

Which body style? Two doors use a 112" wheelbase. Four doors use a 116" wheel base. The cables are different as a result. You do realize the front cable is different also, right?
