Thanks, are these common wheels? I know the 14X6 is but is there anything special about the R code? The date code is on the inside I believe, Is this correct?

The 14 x 6 R code wheels only came on 442's and Vista Cruiser wagons and not impossible to find but not easy.

A friend just got the 18,000 original mile 68 442 from Mecum but it has Buick wheels on it. He would like to find a set of original wheels for it and put the hubcaps back on it. Talk about a time capsule, that car is the perfect definition of "survivor car"

Only thing I could see on the short amount of time I had to look at it was the Buick wheels and a vintage reverb unit that was not original. At least they hooked the reverb to the factory radio and did not replace it.

When restoring my '68 (it came originally with steel wheels and wire wheel covers), I couldn't find any "R" code '68 wheels. What I did find was a set of the same 5 wheels from a '67 Chevelle that looked exactly the same as the '68 steel wheel Olds spare I had. They were all restored to like-new condition and I got the full set for $75. Since the N95 wire wheel cover goes over the entire wheel, I wasn't worried about the "R" code near the valve stem. For the spare, I picked the one wheel that didn't seem to have any code stamped into it. Just food for thought.

Another question, What are all the 68 wheel cover options for the 442? Any pictures of the true correct wheel cover options for 68? I thought I had this information but I sure can't find it.

I have an extra set of the hubcaps labeled as W-20 in the picture if those are needed.

Eric,
I found a 14 x 6 Oldsmobile steel wheel that I think is the correct one. I can't make out the code near the valve stem but will dig further. According to the book I have, the codes on the inside of the wheel are correct for a '68 442.

There is not an RPO option code for the standard cap because it is not an option! The Book just calls it a cap STD. I really really like those W20 wheel covers.
