Check out my build thread, my H/O came used from Friedley... I've talked to Herold Friedley on the phone, I have a page of notes from our phone conversation.

One of the area newspapers has their old versions archived and OCR'd, so you can find old Friedley newspaper ads.

You have answered all my questions. I Rescently found the original owner of my w-31(In another Post "Parting F85 Post W-31") found out it came from Friedly Olds In Iowa. Was hoping additional Doc's might be out there. I guess not given your conversation with Herald Friedly

Sorry for the slow response, been running around like crazy. Friedley seems to have plenty of performance cars that came out of it. Very cool that you were able to find the original owner. It wasn't a gentleman named Rudy, was it? I talked to a guy who was an original '68 H/O owner and he had bought a '70 W31 from Friedley as well to race.

Unfortunately no docs available from them. I asked Herald if they had any trunk badges around and didn't get a positive answer on that either.

My parents bought new Oldsmobiles from Frieidly Olds In Cedar Falls, from between 1950 through 1965(1950, 55. 60 and a 65). I remember the place like it was yesterday.

I don't believe Friedley Olds ever had a trunk badge. My parents purchased new olds from them between 1950 - 1965 and none of our cars ever had one. Even the the car in the small showroom ever have a company badge that I ever recall. I was in the place quit a bit growing up as there was a hobby store a couple blocks away on Main Street.

I believe Friedley was in the "old location" a block west of Main Street until the mid 60's. By 1967 he was in his new building on University Avenue. Friedley was in Cedar Falls, Tate Cadillac/Olds was in Waterloo in 1970. Friedley sold more performance cars than Tate's. John Deery bought the Olds/GMC dealership later, maybe in the 80's. Was that hobby shop on Main Street down near the Rock Island railroad tracks ? I doubt there is any Olds records saved by Deery.

Yea, I believe so. I remember the hobby shop had a basement with a slot car track in the early to mid-60s. Probably less than a block from the river on the east side of Main.

Where'd you grow up? I went to Cedar Heights elementary on Rainbow drive, then one year at the old Manual Arts on Main Street. Peet opened the following year

I lived on Scenic Drive, about a half a mile behind the Starlight Drive-in on 218. First job was at the Howard Johnson's at Cedar Heights Dr and 218, then as a cook at Porkys Red Carpet down the street. I left in '67 for the West Coast.

My step dad sold cars at Friedley's old location til they moved and then the new location til 1969. My stepdad helped my fiance' get a job as receptionist and in the office at the University location. She went from Friedley to Tate Cadillac/Olds in 1967 and helped my step dad get a job as a salesman at Tate Cadillac/Olds about 1969.
She also took delivery of my 68 Hurst/Olds when it came off the car transport.

Not sure what year this is from, between 1968 and 1973 is my guess because they added Saab around 1974 if I remember right.

When Friedley started using these stickers, they put them on everything including the horse trailers they sold. It keeps popping into my mind that the trunk badges were only put on high end cars like 98's.

I wish I could find a better version of it to determine if the lettering was chrome, silver metallic, etc. We are trying to get them reproduced and that is the only unknown.

I bought a 1972 GMC pickup from Friedley. I think the salesman's name was Joe Betterley. Anybody remember him?

I never heard of him, but that doesn't mean he didn't sell stuff for Friedley.
