High Volume Oil Pump (M22FHV) Clarification Between Shimming & Spring Replacement

Re: High Volume Oil Pump

Trying to discern the difference between the two. After reading around various places, I understand that shimming is adding shim to the existing spring. Like this found DMR site.

OR

One could replace the existing spring with the 'purple' spring to get the same result.

Please advise if I have that right or please correct me.

It might help get more answers if you explain that M22FHV is an oil pump (I googled it). It also might help if you explain why you want to shim or install a different spring. You are right that adding a shim will increase the spring tension a small amount but only as long as the spring still has enough room to compress. Personally I have no idea which would be better for an oil pump. Someone else might have more info for you.
