1970 442 HD cooling option overflow tank?

Just wondering if anyone can tell me if this overflow tank is original to the car or added later? 1970 W30 V02 car
The faded white plastic can next to the rad.
And yes I know the VC's are on backwards. To be fixed.

Thanks and Cheers

Not original to the car. Even if you got one from the dealer for the car is was different

what about the windshield fluid bottle. Is that correct? Were there black as well as white ones in 70?

I don't think so. I have never seen a known original car with a black one after 69.

I had an early build 1970 Cutlass Supreme from the Fremont plant with a black bottle. I don't know for sure it was original though.

The overflow tank shown in the car looks like it may be from a Buick.....possibly an "early production" '70 GS, etc. The "early production" '70 Buick overflow tanks had the clear top like yours has. Sometime during the '70 production run they went with a black plastic top and kept using that through '72.

It could be from a pre-70 Buick but I'm not familiar enough with those years to know.

If it's in nice condition then they are sort of a "sought after" piece.....someone with at survivor type GS, etc might pay decent $ for it.

EDIT - can't see where the hose hookups are on the overflow tank.....wherever they are may provide a better clue on the application.

Thanks for the info everyone.

I suspect its an early Buick tank too. The car is very original right down to the paint and stripes. I'm betting the tank was installed by the first owner over long ago.

The black washer bottle seems to be original to the car too, but I can't verify that....yet.

Is the black bottle painted black or black plastic?
The overflow bottle has some writing on it, what's it say or what numbers are on it?

You can do what you want but if it were me, I would sell the Buick tank on a Buick forum and get an Oldsmobile tank depending on how much the Buick tank is worth. The Olds repops are 200.00. wtf?

Maybe that Buick tank should stay as a conversation piece.

Just saw the black washer fluid bottle at Fusick. They are selling it for 68-69 cutlass. not saying that makes it correct for a 68-69, just adding what I found.

WTF X2. The washer tank is $22 and the overflow is $200. Let's see double the plastic 9X the cost. Yep that adds up.

I believe the overflow was dealer installed on the 71' if brought back for a cooling fluid issue and on the 72's it was standard. I'd suspect this was due to the EPA being established around this time and they didn't want the anti-freeze running into the environment. Every A body I had dumped fluid out of the overflow. 1 had the overflow tank and very seldom did I have to top off the coolant.
