Breaker Breaker to the Bandit

If you are a Smokey And The Bandit fan you may be interested in checking out the 40th anniv. showing. It is going to have a limited showing at select theaters. Jackie Gleason is great in this movie. I can quote way to much of this movie. Enjoy

Correction, Jackie Gleason made the movie. The rest were just co-stars, although Jerry Reed was great too. "Boy, when I get home I'm gonna punch your momma in the mouth cause there is no way you come from my loins."

Saw it in the theater when I was 9 years old with my buddy Jeff. He and I have tickets to see it again on Sunday on the big screen. If I can get all four batteries charged this week and it fires up, we may drive there in my '79 Astro/95 cabover just because we can. ; ) I bought it to be able to do ridiculous stuff like this with it.

We've seen it countless times since then on TV and VHS/DVD, so we'll be reciting lines along with the movie, I'm sure.

Gleason absolutely made that movie. His part reminded me so much of my Dad that I almost tear up when I watch it.

When the car is trashed and all folded up and the son says Daddy what are you doing, Gleason says " got a little fly sh@t on the dash" .

There is a major internet (and pre-internet) debate on exactly what a diablo sandwich is, and what exactly he was served. Turns out he ad-libed that line. People have freeze framed the menu on the wall trying to decipher what sandwich it actually was. And there's at least a dozen 'confirmed' diablo sandwich recipes out there, none of which bear any resemblance to what he was served.

That said ... I nearly made the 'bandit run' last year. Was going to trick out my Parisienne to look like the sheriff's car from the second movie .. but trying to find period correct bubble gum machines is damn near impossible. The door decals, the part I thought would be hard ... for sale on the internet. Finally I couldn't make the time for it, but there's always next year, and the year after that. But they're not going to be up north like last year's was.

fascinating - the diablo sandwich line is my favorite. The whole bit in the diner and the toilet paper is just classic. Saw this movie twice when it was out, second time at a drive in with my older girl cousins and her friends. I'd do that evening again.

Have to find a really strong truck to pull that off. Today's trailers are tinfoil and paste compared to what they rolled in the 60s and 70s.

I bought the pursuit pack of Smokey and the Bandit DVD back in the 80's . They crammed all 3 movies on 1 C'D.
I have watched all but #3 well over 100 times haha, my favourite movie.
I can't stand theatres, I hope it hits a drive in near me.

I actually just watched that again recently. Definitely a good movie.

"Oh I love your suits. It must have been a b!+ch to get a 68 Extra Fat and a 12 Dwarf."

I read this on IMDB:

"Near the end of the movie, one of the two Georgia State Patrol cars that block the entrance to the fairgrounds (the Oldsmobile) is equipped with an airbag (very rare for the '70s). General Motors did offer the airbag as the Air Cushion Restraint System in 1974 as RPO AR3 in full-sized Buick, Oldsmobile, and Cadillacs after it was experimented with some 1973 Chevrolet Impalas used as test mules. The airbags were used in conjunction with a knee blocker on the instrument panel. GM discontinued the ACRS after the 1976 model year in response to low demand. The airbag did not deploy in that minor collision but did deploy when they purposely wrecked the car years later. That car is shown in an airbag safety film used in some traffic schools."

There are a few drive inn theaters yet in Iowa, will have to keep eyes pealed for one of those showing it! ! That would be cool sit in the old car, in a drive inn, with my CB on and the movie going.

Anyone have CB radios in your old rides?

" I'm gonna need a car............... a fast car....................faster than that!"

"Daddy wait, who's gonna hold your hat"

And everything in between. To this day my favorite movie!

Olds64, I owned a 1974 98 and you could see a "passenger restraint system" light in the dash. Ashtrays and lighters everywhere and if you were at a party that sucked, everybody just piles in. 455 and Hei ignition with a plug gap of .085 !

I've searched a bunch of sites and this is one actually giving out theater locations..by zip code. If your close to a big city, no problem. I'm a couple ours out from the closest one in my area.

I wanted to edit this: in my area there are three theaters showing only on the 21st of May at 2pm and 7pm and only on 24th of May at 2pm and 7pm. Please keep that in mind, might be different in your area.

Just a thought

Being at a Bandit movie, Don't be surprised if you catch people taking pictures of girls sitting on your car

theres a a dukes of hazard charger in Branson Missouri that they had to put a sign on but people still sit on it.

Hi everyone.

Just got back from seeing the movie. Such a good time. I thought it would be jam packed but there probably weren't a dozen people in the theater. Of course it was right after church and also not a terrific part of town.

I've seen this movie about 200 times but nothing beats seeing it on the big screen. I might go again on Tuesday. Loads of fun.

I just back from seeing it also. Have not had a great weekend and almost didn't go. Glad I did. I was surprised at how much more background stuff I noticed on the big screen. Anybody ever noticed the T/A has the different style honeycomb wheels in the scene where it is sitting by Texas border sign? Fast Times At Ridgemont High is coming out in July, I'll probably go see it also.

Ah, didn't notice the wheels but I did notice, for the first time, the amount of B and C pillar that's missing on the Sherriff's car changes.
