Sport mirror rebuild

I have some sport mirrors for 71-72 Cutlass. The remote movement is very restrictive drivers mirror. Is this something that can be repaired fairly easily pulling them apart?

I had a similar issue. I took a chance and purchased a set of sport mirrors with a seized-up drivers side. In my case two of the three control cables were frozen within the mirror housing. I was able to repair it by taking the mirror apart and soaking the collar/cable area where it was frozen in WD40 for a few hours and then grabbing the cable with pliers and slowly working the cable loose. Then silicone spray.

It's been a few years and the mirror still moves freely...

I have not tried that yet. Based in on how the mouting bracket looked, it may be a difficult task for white lith.

I have a penetrant I can try that has worked for me. If I can get it free, I'll lube it with the white lithium.

So this is why the mirror wouldn't move... When asked, the seller claimed "I pulled them from the car, tested and they moved..." Yeah right.... He gave me a partial refund. Soaking them now...

Threw up in my mouth a little bit looking at that picture

It's still salvageable - good luck!

Yeah, I almost sent him the pic to say "Are you sure this mirror worked?..."..

One cable is still stuck. I think I may just use it for now until I find a decent replacement. I tried to tug a little with needle nose, but I don't want to distort the cable too much.

FYI - mine was pretty frozen so I started with needle nose pliers but wound up using regular pliers in order to break it free after weighing my options (e.g., wallet). Yes, I mashed the cable braid a bit in the process but they are pretty beefy and I was able to compress it back into shape once things were free.

I'm going to try a little more pressure this evening. I'm worried more about putting a kink in the cable more than anything.
