'63 Starfire Dealer promo?

Hey guys, found this while out antiquing with the wife yesterday.
Still in it's original shrink wrap.
I can't find anything out about the original company "Mego"
The plastic quality and crispness almost feels like an old Johan model kit.
Thought it was pretty cool, just wanted to share.

I have a JoHan 63 Starfire model I put together. Looks remarkably similar. But my tires aren't wide whites.

I'm familiar with Mego for their action figures from the '70s. Their signature line was "Action Jackson" but they also made movie and TV tie-ins for titles like Star Trek, The Wizard of Oz, The Dukes of Hazzard and DC comic book characters like Superman, Batman and Robin, Aquaman and Wonder Woman. I never knew they made dealer model cars. If that's what it is, you absolutely stole it at $19. I just sold a dealer model of a '63 Buick Riviera on eBay for $137. I also have the Johan version of the '63 Starfire along with a bunch of others. Dad started working for Oldsmobile in 1959 and collected at least one dealer model for each year through 1971. I've also got a handful of Ford models from the same era. I've also got a wall display of '65 Chevy dealer models made from the passenger side halves of a Corvair, Impala, Nova, Malibu and Corvette model. Presumably was a second display made of the driver side halves as well.

That chevy displays sounds really cool. Love a pict of it.

I didn't waste a minute picking it up. I've collected a lot of old model cars over the years...especially Johans. You cant buy anything for 19 bucks anymore.

...but the temptation to rip open the shrink wrap to play with it is killing me!

That's cool! Was it straight from the Chevy marketing offices?
Any markings?

I have no idea of its origins beyond my dad telling me one of the Oldsmobile dealers (presumably a Chevrolet/Olds dealer) he used to call on gave it to him and I vaguely remember him bringing home in the early '80s when I was in high school.

It appears to be professionally done. The models are expertly sawn in half with no rough edges showing and mounted on black velvet, which is a total dust magnet. Each model is secured to the frame with screws through the wheels. There are no markings indicating who made it, who it was presented to or anything like that.

Ha!
Nice observation.

I like the Malibu. Same Lucerne blue as my 65 F-85

Yeah, and that one would have the steering wheels. I've often wondered if the dealer who gave Dad this one has its mate hanging on his wall.
