Weird stalling issue when car warms up

Alright.i have a 1983 delta 88 royale. Lately im having a weird issue. My car will start and idle alright but when i put it in drive or reverse and hit the gas, it doesnt move at all and just syalls out. It seems to only do it when the car gets warm. I know this cuz when i got up this morning it was able to be driven into my garage but after having it run for a lil while it just syalls in gear. Idk what it could be. I have checked all vacuum lines and all are intact. Any ideas?

Are you sure you checked ALL of the vacuum lines? An '83 Delta probably has about a thousand of them.

Any chance you have a spark plug wire off, or a carbon trial in your distributor cap, or a bad spark plug wire, or a bad spark plug?

I'd eliminate all of those things first, before considering readjusting the idle, since it shouldn't have changed if you didn't mess with it.

I agree with Eric, if its chugging when you give it gas then stalling, its likely spark related.

I've seen bad lockup converter switches cause this if converter stays in lockup mode. Is "check engine" lit?

Well i guess i just found the problem... it looks the the center of the isnide of the cap, along with the rotor has melted somehow, which opens up another mystery as to how in the heck this happened

That'll do it.

A lot less subtle than a carbon trail.

Is that just the cap that's damaged, or is the coil damaged, too?

Where is the insulator washer and brush pin? Did someone do a tune up on it recently and install it incorrectly?

It's amazing how bad those can get and still run.

Had to chime in on this one....I've never seen anything like that either! I seen a few that were pretty messed up...but that takes the cake. I agree you should defiantly keep that one cuz nobody's gunna believe that one.

Update: i finally replaced the cap, rotor, button, and the coil. It idles fine but when i put the car in gear and hit the gas it moves maybe an inch and still just stalls out.
