Best Quality Bumpers??

I'm looking for a pair of good quality Bumpers for my 72 cutlass. I know all are not created equal. The Bumpers on the car look to be after market. I can see the grind marks in the bumper under the chrome which is coming off!! Open for any suggestions.

Your bumpers may be originals with a bad rechrome job.
The aftermarket bumpers frequently fit badly.
If yours fit well, you may be better off having a reputable rechrome shop rechrome what you have.

If they fit well, have them rechromed by Tri City Plating in Tenn. They do good work, and guarantee it for as long as you own the car.

I had the bumpers on my 71 98 re chromed by Goodmark a few years ago. It was about $1400, so it wasn't too bad. They turned out good, but the Goodmark customer service was lacking.

Originals with a nice triple chrome job will be the best. NorthStar in Minniapolis St Paul which is now Keystone now. Pauls in Pennsylvania. There are a few others. Google. The NCRS Vette guys use Pauls. Ive used NorthStar.
Aftermarket could likely be chineasium? No Chineasium junk for me!
Most high end platers will have cores on hand or can source OEM cores for you. NorthStar did.

I used Keystone about 25 years ago and they did a very poor prep job (grind marks, ocean waves, minimal straightening). Chrome quality was good, however.

My painter sent both bumpers to his contact at Keystone last month and they did an incredibly good job. They charged him just over $900 including the rear Vista step piece.

The painter says you have to tell them that it is for restoration. He probably got a trade discount, so you may have to pay more.

I had a quote from few shops. The cheapest one was around $1700 for both bumpers. Mind you my bumpers are not bent or dented. They are in really good driver condition. I couldn't part with that much cash.
Tamraz (on ebay) has some show quality triple chrome bumpers that are plated here in US. I ended up getting those. No problems with fitment and chrome does look better than Chinesium chrome.

Try Quality Bumper Service on Haskel in Dallas. Its been there forever and still rechrome there(not sending it to Mexico) They did all the chrome and letters for my 64 F-85 pro-touring build.

I have purchased three front and three rear bumpers on Ebay for two '70 442s and a '68 Cutlass S that I restored. It doesn't matter which company on Ebay you buy the bumpers from, just make sure the seller sells "Goldstar" brand bumpers. The bumpers are durable, nicely finished, and fit well. The prices are in the $300-$379 range, shipped. Substantially cheaper than re-chroming and I am **** about originality. Make sure you buy new chrome bumper bolts, not stainless steel. I have been very happy with mine and car guys ask me, "Who re-chromed your bumpers?"; so I know they look original.

Tamraz is selling GoldenStar bumpers right now for $284. Just thought that I would throw that out there because I don't think that you could get yours rechromed for that.

Free shipping too.
