back surgery
Tomorrow morning I will go under the knife. The docs will do a Lamendectomy from L3 to the tailbone. Then realign L4 and L5 with screws and fuse both. Not looking forward to it but anything to relieve the Sciatic pain.

Hope it turns out well for you. My wife has lower back problems,and the surgeon gave no encouragement after the test,but she is scheduled to see a neurosurgeon Friday. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you.

Oy, my Princess is also ready for the gamble, she is in constant pain and uses a TEMS ? zapper thing pretty much all the time. There comes a point when the surgery is a might as well, because you are already debilitated.

i had a laminectomy in 92 on the L5.when i woke up pain was gone.when i got released i asked for pain meds.and the DR said "nope" if you experience pain your body is telling ya to rest.and i must say thats pretty much how i have lived the last 24 yrs.if i do something and it don't feel right its time to take a load off and take it easy.works every time.might not get things done as fast or soon as i want but i'm still pain free and thats worth it to me.AND the biggest thing is you will have to eat your pride sometimes and ask for help.get used to it.

After all of the surgical hurting and going thru re-hab, I am finally home. Actually was released early, wasn't supposed the be home before the 1st of June. The surgery went well and right now I have absolutely no back pain at all. The Doc gave me some 5 mg. Norco tabs in case I need anything for pain but do not need anything now. Hope everything continues like it is going now.

It sounds like you've done great!
On the one hand, do NOT overstrain it. Be VERY careful.
On the other hand, DO use it, and increase weight gradually - if you completely baby it, you will take forever to get better.
The neurosurgeon sees a tremendously wide range of patients, from wilting-flower drug addicts to sort of super-macho tough guys who hurt themselves again with a week, and whatever he says is probably what works best for the majority of the people he sees - it may not be exactly tailored to your own way of recovering.
Just play it by ear, go easy, and if it hurts - don't do it!

Ed: Sounds like a resounding success! So very happy for you. Juju had surgery last June, and was not successful, still in a great deal of pain. Doctors have said they don't want to operate on her (75 years young, and heavy smoker), and that seems to be every opinion we have had. We are scheduled to have a spine stimulator tried soon, two leads inserted on the spine, with an external control. Try it for a week, and if successful, they will (2-3 hospital surgery) insert the automatic control inside her, also. Hopeful. Wish I could hurt for her.

This is great news! I hope your convalescence continues to go well. Are you allowed to be out and about, or are you required to stay inside and be monitored for now?

Good to hear your home a little early, I hope you continue to do well. Everyone is pulling for you here. Sounds like you'll be in your Olds mid early July.

Maybe install some swivel seats. My wife used to take her grandfather around because of the seats in her olds when she was a teen.
