Sorry, I had stopped to have a donut...

Well, don't know what's worse. W36 stripe abuse or the need to put wide W-car side stripes on every 70-72 car.

Hmm.. I dont see nothing wrong with non-correct decals used.
As long as its not museum-car, then it should be period-correct- unfortunately you see museum cars which arent even correct..
Imo W-36 decals look great, no matter where. Best decals ever are Mopar-style decal on rear, similiar to W-36 style.

More to eyes takes those MSD/ Holley/ Mobil-1/ Autogauge etc stickers planted here and there on thyning-cars..

I think if it was done on a car that wasn't a perfumed pig, then people wouldn't have an issue. But it makes no sense to use a stripe design on a car for which it wasn't designed - it's like forcing a square peg in a round hole.

I've never been a fan of the factory-painted W36 stripes on 68s (they are NOT "decals"). They just don't go with the shape or styling of the car. Unfortunately, my 68 W-30 must retain them for correctness.

I don't get why people feel the need to paint Chevelle stripes on the trunklid either. (Or swap in belly-button motors for that matter...)

Oh well im going to repaint my car and possibly add w-36 decals and atleast bury the original horrible two-tone painting. Its not my fault if they made shitty paintings from factory, and considering how much repainting costs, theres no reason to duplicate the uglyness.
Unless your going to add it to museum registry, when i totally undestand it.

Not a fan of those stripes either. Pricing on the car however, seems fair.

Another violator! I can live with it because they did not try to copy an original stripe patern.

The purist in me says if one wants to apply the W36 stripe to a 68...at least put it in the right location using the correct dimensions. That will show at least some effort/homework was done. I too dont like the W36 regardless of where its applied.
That said... being creative is cool as well. Thats what this hobby (can be) is all about. Just dont try to pass the lip sticked pig off as OEM factory correct. That is what pisses us off the most.
I like all the above pictured cars from a creativity point, including z11375ss and the black Supreme. Kinda partial to the drop-top next to my coupe in my avatar as well.

I just don't like the stripes regardless if they aren't stock. My brain says it has seen these cars somewhere before in their correct form and something doesn't look right. If you want to take a nice car and screw it up, this is one sure way to do it. Would be better off leaving it plain...in my opinion. Or naked as some like to call it.

The ask is strong, and most of us in this community know that what you put into a car is not an investment, nor does it make the car that much more valuable. Ah, I see the seller relisted at a lower price, and the car is no longer available.

I did have a laugh at the upside down (and wrong) gas pedal though. It does have some nice options (from 1972 SPECS) such as PS, PB, AT, AC, A02, Y60 Accessory Group, D33 Outside remote mirror, maybe more that I didn't see? It also has the proper non vented AC hood for a Cutlass, although the wheel opening trim is missing.

Anyway, if the car is solid and someone doesn't mind the aesthetics of the attempted W36 stripes or custom interior? It could be an easy fix for a purist to restore. I love the exterior color though.

Well, that might be a bad move on your part pardner. The roof structure is really needed on the HT cars and they have a substantially weaker frame than the boxed verts did. The doors wouldn't open or close right, and to be honest it might collapse on you if you were driving it!

I understand your point, and as I've already alluded in other posts, you're spot on with folks seeing incorrect 442 representations and thinking they're proper. No research. You'd also need to lose the rocker chrome BTW as part of the W29 package, and as Ted says, get the proper model! Although I must say the side stripes on this car are proper. I'd like to know what the cowl tag says the PNT code is for that car, because 19/19 would have been a special order for 72.

I looked at the VIN and it was born as a 350 4bbl, but somehow it's managed to eat enough wheaties or sowbelly and cackleberries to beef up to a 455. At least that's what's advertised. No mention of what block though. There are numerous detail items that are wrong in this presentation, but an uniformed buyer likely isn't going to care until he has things pointed out at shows? This car is easily fixed back to proper specs, but not at a whopping 29K price tag. IMHO I don't think even BJ would touch this one.

Hey, I'll say this to help Joe P out. There appears to be a glut of 1 of 0 'fully restored' cars appearing on the market, and definitely more OAI hood cars than were ever produced by the factory.

Thanks.

Actually, that's the correct Cutlass S hood on the car.

I agree, 442 badges on a hardtop Supreme should not be done. I don't even like them put on S's. I don't understand why people can't be happy with a Cutlass S. I love mine.

There's a method behind my stripe madness too. Over time, the keyring/keys wear off the paint on the dashboard. All pre-69 owners know this heartbreak. I had repainted the metal part of my dashboard, and was trying to find a way to keep that from happening again. I had heard that some have used clear contact paper in that area, but I thought that would look weird with the little shiny patch. One day I was shopping in one of the local auto parts stores and I saw this stripe tape for sale. That's actually how it came. About 10' of mini W-36 stripe. I'll bet anybody else that was in the store actually saw the light bulb go on over my head. The rest is history. When this stripe gets worn, I've got a lot more to replace it with.

I like that! Although I don't care for the stripe on the side. And they're missing the bright trim at the top of the quarter panels. And the antenna looks bent.

One of the funnier members we've ever had was BlueVista and his alter ego redgoat. Using the miracle of a photchopshop, He "fixed" one of Joe's wagons. Every time this subject comes up. I think of this pic and wish Bluevista would rejoin us. FWIW. I don't think Joe saw the humor then and most likely won't enjoy me posting the pic again.

Dudes: That car is an F87............... they did not build many of those. Is like an F85 model/trim level, but a hardtop, vinyl floor, the bare min as far as chrome/trim, etc.

That Supreme makes a nice looking 442 though. I really like the black stripes on a black car. They should have made the S an SX, and the Supreme the 442. That's why I like the convertibles. I've been seeing people get scammed like this for years. It's a shame.

That one was for sale by my house for the longest time. I posted it prob two years ago. I think the ask was $6500 and I thought it was overpriced at that. Looks like it ended up with a flipper. Wonder if he got his $$ from the EBay sale. If he did, I bet somebody is going to be pretty unhappy.
I thought the car was so fast the stripe got pushed back.
As weird as the stripe was the tire choice was just as off. It always looked weird to me. I stopped one day to look and it was running 205/60r15. Bad choice for an A-Body

I actually like it, nice subtle cowl hood. I would much prefer a painted white top over the rust hoarding vinyl top. My Wife doesn't like it, so it won't end up at my house.
