wheel paint preferences 1970 silver 442.
I have a factory silver 1970 442 with black interior and no vinyl roof, clean nice driver but not a show car. OAI hood (getting painted now) with black hood scoop stripes and correct '70 thin black side stripes.
It has 15 inch SSII/III wheels on it now, painted black. 1. I could leave these black, 2. get them painted correct argent (darker than the silver), 3. get them painted body color, or 4. put on 15" body color steel wheels with caps.
Even if you are a "correctness" junkie, realize that these are 15" and I have ruled out using 14" wheels.
So what of the above 4 options would look best ?

I have argued with myself on this topic for my 69 Cutlass S.
I know the wheels should be argent, but I just plain like the matching body color look better. They were painted that way when I got the car and it's sorta grown on me.
Given that your body color is silver, and it is driver, I'd vote to paint the wheels to match. Maybe not totally correct, but I bet it will look sharp.
In the end, do what you like best, it's your car.

if I had a car any other color, I would choose argent wheels....but since the car is silver...if I had argent wheels I would think that others will think I just did a bad job of color matching the body and the wheels.
I wonder if back in the day many people chose the silver/argent combo or if they just ordered SS1s, which is how this car was ordered.

Given that your car does not have a vinyl top, I would think that the Silver body needs a nice offset color. I completely agree with you that Silver wheels would create too much Silver and Argent would appear as a bad paint match. I think keeping the wheels black breaks up all that Silver really nice and should also pick up the black stripes on the hood and body as well as the Black interior.

wheel color opinion
I also have a 69 cutlass convertible and took quite a while to decide, source, locate and paint my wheels. In my case the car is red and I simply think red wheels are not the best. I painted mine charcoal metallic from a spray can.
The dark charcoal is distinctly not black or silver and I think looks great. In your case I would go with black to contrast with silver car and all the trim on the wheel as well as to POP against the black roof and stripes.
