U.S Gas Prices Are Falling Fast
#83
I live in southern Maryland (about 30 minutes south of DC). One of the 40 taxes that our wonderful governor has raised over the past few years has been our state gas tax. He raised it 12 cents a gallon. Next year, it is supposed to go up another 10 cents.
I just paid $3.47 a gallon for 87 octane here in Maryland. This past weekend, I drove over to Virginia to get some cigarettes and paid $2.95 for 87 octane.
If you are wondering why I drive to Virginia for smokes, a carton in Maryland costs $70, while in Virginia the same carton is $32. Gotta love those taxes!!!
One last thing, Maryland is the only state in the union that actually has a RAIN TAX! Yes, believe it or not, our governor has taxed the rain that comes out of the sky. Just thought that I would let you all know, because this idiot is actually going to run for president in 2 years.

Don't most blue states have high taxes? I'm in texas , I Paid 3.14$ this morning and it if I recall its been between 2.98$ -3.15$ I can't remember how long. I still complain because there shouldn't be a tax on gas among other things .

However, for a 'Blue' state, they have one of the silliest rules in place that I have heard of (and I lived there for 10 years), you cannot pump your own gas....... an attendant must pump it for you! (but they don't wash windows............)

yeah, see, it's not the SALE of the gas we are taxing, it's the PROVIDING of it!
Lansing tried to dip into the pockets deeper to finance drain reconstruction by levying a "fee" [NOT A TAX!] based on your property and how much of it is paved and therefore produces runoff water. Soon dubbed the "rain tax," it was overturned in a court battle.
renaming the extraction of money from another's wallet does not change the end result, just how they victim feels about it. "Tax? Hell no! Oh wait, it's just a fee? Oh, OK then!"

I meant that they have no state sales tax on goods or services.

I know that's what you meant. My point was, what's the relevance of the comment to the situation?
Oregon isn't the only state with no sales tax. Delaware is another one. Oregon has a point-of-sale tax on gasoline, whether it's called a sales tax, fuel tax, excise tax, or something else, and taxes on gasoline are what we've been talking about.

You mean you're sure you're NOT the only one that has ever posted trivia.
True, of course, but it was just close enough to what we were talking about to possibly be confusing.
Next time, preface your trivia comment with something like "what I'm about to say has nothing to do with what's being talked about in this thread, but...."

Hey "Dude," I got up on the side of bed I intended to get up on, and I'll say anything I damn well feel like saying.
May I remind you that YOU said this:
Thus admitting that your comment was irrelevant to the conversation. All I was asking is that, the next time you want to make an irrelevant comment, you warn us ahead of time so that we'll know we can safely ignore it.
May I remind you that YOU said this:
Just a little trivia for the gang.

An update on this:
American shale revolution ends Saudi Arabia’s reign as oil king
http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/busine...cle4234447.ece
You can't read most of it unless you subscribe, but the headline says enough. Thank you, hydraulic fracking.
Here's a related article from a few days ago:
Oil price slips below $89 to hit lowest level since 2010
http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/busine...cle4232622.ece
Same issue regarding reading the whole article, but, again, the headlines says all you need to know.
Around here, gas prices are now in the $2.90 to $3.10 range all over town with one station I saw at $2.84. I'm wondering if we can get below $2.50? $2.00? Wouldn't that be nice.

Wow. That's great. Of course, you're right in the middle of the "oil patch." But maybe the rest of us will start seeing prices like that, too.
I'm taking a couple of 1500 to 2000 mile driving trips in the next two months, and I definitely would not mind seeing gas at $2.50 or below.

The latest:
It Looks Like $80 Oil Is Here to Stay
http://www.businessweek.com/articles...gn_id=DN103014
with an interesting map of gas prices around the country. Article says that half the stations in the U.S. are now below $3.00 per gallon. Lowest I've seen locally is $2.64.
(Not sure what that "No Stations Found" plastered across Canada means. I guess you guys up there don't have gas stations. )
