Smothers Brothers racing pics
We are looking for any colored pictures of my dads 1969 W-31 convertible King olds Smothers Brothers car. We have the car and want to restore this piece of NHRA history but have no pictures of the inside or from the top or the trunk. I heard that at the 1969 Winter Nationals there was a entire team picture taken. Also any video of this car running I know that he had an in car camera at Gainsville raceway that year. we are also looking for sponsors to help restore this car we already have a shop to do the work and Journey to Olds wants to cover the rebuild from start to finish our main goal is to get this historic car back to how it was in 1969 and get it to shows musseums and anywhere else to show it off. this car was already in the road to atlanta show in its prime. there is a new book out called "jr. stock racing the faimly sedan" where this car and dad have a chapter. and off course any stories that this car may have that would be neat also for we will be putting these in a book to put on display when the restoration is complete.
Thank you

This car was actually the 1970 smothers brothers car. In 1971 and 1972 oldsmobile sent body conversion kits for this car changing the year..
IN 1971 the car ran in M/S. We have the 1971 hood still and dad ran it in 1972 SS O. Then in 1973 or 1974 the car was sold to Buddy Ingersoll. You would have to ask his son if they still have it or what is going on with the car now.
We are looking for pics that have the deck lid. All the ones that we have are close, but just off a bit...

Oh so the white 70 was converted to the white 71-72 with the blue fish scale? And it was initally a 70 w-31? Even the bodyside molding and 71-72 Fender emblems?

Those guys were actually pretty good drivers. Recall an old "It Takes A Thief" TV episode, where Tommy Smothers was teaching Robert Wagner how to drive Formula One cars. Those cars looked nothing at all like todays Formula One cars. As usual, there was always a good looking babe in the mix somehow.

Seeing this old stuff just brings back so many memories. The 'Lubik' Olds race car is where my father bought his 70 Toronado when he came back from Vietnam. I remember being there and wanting the green one but dad insisted on the silver Oh well, was still a cool car for it's day.

Thanks for the post. Nice to know Schorr is still around. He wrote that book OLDSMOBILE THE PERFORMANCE YEARS which is out of print and become something of a collector's piece. I still have my original copy.
