Shroud Tie Bar Braces

I have a couple general questions for the Olds historians. Did only the Vista Cruisers get these tie bar braces? What was their function? Thanks!

im not and expert but i do know they came on 1976 and1977 cutlass supremes .i think they started showing up in 1973 on the cutlass supreme models as well .as far as thier function i would guess they were added for safety .im sure someone with more knowledge on this site could educate us on this subject.

As far as the 1972 A-body models were concerned, only the VC got the tie bars. They stiffen the front end for reduced cowl shake and rattles. Frankly, I never understood why they were not used on other models as well. I've installed them on a Cutlass in the past.
