Refurbishing a 4 spoke sterring wheel

Does anyone know of a shop that can refurbish a 4 spoke steering wheel and is it possible to change the color of the wrap, looking for a saddle color.

The "wrap" is molded rubber. I doubt there's any good way to refurb or recolor it, at least not for less than the cost of a repro.

Thanks Joe, i've only seen them come in black. Do you know of a company that remakes them in different colors.

There are repop wheels from most of the aftermarket suppliers. What year is your car? If it is prior to 73, the wheel would have been black. The reason most shops don't refurbish the wheels is they are made of rubber material and a die would have to be made to do it right. A new wheel will have the proper grain and stitching pattern. Most of the ones for sale on the web are worn smooth or have blemishes that detract from their aesthetic appeal. If you wanted to do something real special, buy a wheel cheap on the web and have it wrapped in tan leather; that would be ultimately cool and not wear badly or be sticky. Probably cost about what a repop wheel would.

I suppose you could always buy a wheel on the web and have it 'painted' the color you want using rubber polymer paint.

There are colored 4 spoke wheels out there, but they are the smaller 14 1/2 inch wheels, not the 15 1/2 your car likely would have come with.

The 14" colored wheels were used on the 1975-79 H-body Starfires. Except for the outer diameter (and the more pronounced faux "stitching") they are identical to the 15" wheels and interchange on the hub.

Keep an eye out on ebay for good steering wheels, i picked one up for under fifty dollars a couple months back, it had all the original grain and a not-cracked horn button to boot.

If you search on ebay for "442 steering wheel" or "cutlass steering wheel" for example, click search and then tier the results for most recently posted, alot of times you can find something that's just been listed, Cheap, for buy it now.

Best of luck,

Tony

Which is designed to repair hard plastic steering wheels. This kit DOES NOT work on the soft rubber used on a four spoke sport wheel.
