Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, & Texas CO Members

Time to get those cars out - and other states are welcome!

The North Texas Olds Club is hosting our 2017 Zone Show in Gainesville, Texas. This location - right on the border between Oklahoma and Texas with easy highway access - was selected in part to try to stimulate more attendance at our show for Olds lovers in the Arklatex region.

We plan on having a one day event on Saturday April 22nd. Optional car judging will be at midday with a catered awards dinner that evening. This allows our guests to be able to do everything in one day, or stay the night and depart on Sunday. Most members will start arriving on Friday the 21st, so if your schedule permits, get there early more for drinkin and tire kickin. You do not need to be a national or local club member to attend. Or even have a car for that matter.

The host hotel is the Quality Inn in Gainesviile. Room rate is 79.00 per night and is directly across the road from the show area. There is a adjacent Zoo with a train ride for the kiddos and downtown historic Gainesville is close by with antique stores and specialty shops on the square. Most importantly (for some), the "World's Largest Casino" is about 5 miles away across the Red River.

Please help spread the word - our goal is 100 cars. Come have some fun and help us make that number. We know there are lots of nice cars in OK LA, and AR - this is as close in this region as you are going to get to attend a large Olds only event for awhile.

Hotel Info:
Quality Inn Of Gainesville
600 Medal OF Honor Blvd.
Gainesville Texas 76240
(940) 665-8800

Event entry form will be available soon. Let me know if you have any questions

Sounds like it will be a great event, wish I was closer. When I saw the April date I was thinking that was risky since we still get snow/ice sometimes right up to the end of that month up this way. Then I remembered the location and wished our classic car driving season was longer.

Good job Joe. I would encourage anybody to attend this event if possible. This has always been a fun event in the past and hopefully the new location will appeal to more people. This is a fun show and one of the best group of people you will ever be around. I look forward to this show every year. I guarantee you will have a good time.

I made my reservation with Lashelle at the Quality Inn; she asked me to post that you should mention the NTOC group first, to get the rate and to be sure that we fill up the blocked rooms first. Hope to come again this year; it is only about 1180 miles each way for me!

Good to hear guys. Will be publicizing in JWO, the OCA Facebook page and other sites. Again, please help get the word out - we're wanting to see some new cars!

Bumping Up - I'm going to be relentless on this.

Have contacted the South Texas, Houston/Gulf Coast, West Texas, and Archway chapters of the OCA to notify them of the event. Also reaching out to NAOC members in the area as well, and looking for contact info for any Olds guys in Kansas - I understand there is a OCA chapter in the process of reforming up there.

Could use some help in spreading the news in Oklahoma and Louisiana - again, I know there are a lot of cars in those states, and with the proximity to us (seeing as there is not going to be a similar sized all Olds show anywhere close for quite some time) I think it's a great opportunity to roll 'em out!!!

OK guys, here's the link to the NTOC website where you can access the entry form:

http://clubs.hemmings.com/ntexasoca/zoneshow.htm

Have contacted the three other OCA chapters in Texas, the Oklahoma and the chapter in Kansas that is getting restarted and lastly the NAOC.

Let me know if you have any questions. Hope to see some new guys, as well as the usual suspects. Remember, it is not required for you to be be a local or National club member to attend, and judging of your car is not required.

Will update as the event gets.closer.

Joe

You may already know this, but that's the same day / weekend as the New Braunfels swap meet, the 2nd largest Texas swap meet after Pate.

Thanks for the link Joe. Now I have to get my Olds ready and convince the wife and girls that this is necessary.

I put my entry in the mail yesterday. I will tell you this a show you will not miss again if you come to the first one. It is one of the best group of folks you will ever be around. It would really be good to meet some of you guys that I have seen on here. We are there to have a good time and we are successful every year at doing that.

The nerve of those guys! They should have checked with us first. But, who would really want to go spend a day with all those heathen Mustang & Camaro owners?

Thanks Glen. Don't know if you have ever spent any time in Gainesville - it is a city with a long military history that truly appreciates our veterans.

Thanks for that info Joe. I spend two years when I was in the USAF just a little east of Gainsville in Dennison when Perrin AFB was open. Our son was born there and his birth certificate says Pottsboro. When we come home we may come across Hwy 82 through Dennison and then down 75. I will date myself but Perrin AFB closed in 1971. It is now Grayson County Airport.

I just made a reservation at the hotel. I've read the event entry and I'm not sure that I want to enter my car for judging. What is the procedure if you just want to display your car? Since this is my first time bringing my car to a car show any and all detailed information would be greatly appreciated.

Good question. I've driven my cars to several NTOC zone shows but always park in the spectator parking. My cars are not show cars but I always see people looking at them. Do you have to stay a certain length of time if you park on the show lot? Like all day? or be judged? The car, not me, if I get A.D.D. and leave early?
These are great shows. To anyone thinking about going, you should go.

Judging is optional, its not a concourse type of event. All cars are welcome in the show area and yes you can leave at any time. I do recommend staying for the awards dinner which is also not a formal event. The NTOC is a great group of friendly people always ready to talk and help. Age ranges from late 20's on up. Car years at the show range from the early 1900's all the way to the final 500. I encourage those that can make the show to do so, you will not be disappointed.

Like Eric said, you can either note on your registration form that you do not want to have your car judged, or when you arrive and check in, simply tell the the registration attendant that you do not want to have your car judged. But, do get that thing on the show field for however long you can!

Thanks! Hope you yourself can make it. Maybe you might be able to bring some goodies down for people who have pre bought, or some pieces you might want to sell on the spot. We do not have a swap meet area planned - maybe we should?

Joe,
I could bring somethings for sure. I may trailer down a car. I also want to drive my 72. We'll see if the wife wants to drive either vehicle.

We are having some vendors coming to the show - both for new and used parts. Again, please help in spreading the word to any Olds people you might know in your area that may not be on CO or "club joiners". Also going to reach out to Hurst Olds Club members in our Zone. Let me know if you have any questions.

Update

Went up today to do a final walk around of the set up. There are many of the usual restaurants directly adjacent to the host hotel, and a Chili's and Rib Crib right across the street from the show site. Tons of parking for cars & trailers on Friday and after the show on Saturday, and we'll have a security patrol all Friday & Saturday night. Also looked at the Medal Of Honor Memorial Park next to the hotel - very cool. Downtown Gainesville has a little something for everyone if the cars get old to anyone who might be coming with you.

Hope to see many CO'ers there - it really should be a great event.

The show is just around the corner. I have a question, has anyone driven Hwy 51 from Weatherford to Gainesville? Is it a decent road?

I can certainly vouch for the stretch from Weatherford to Decatur. Very nice, clean stretch with minimal traffic.

You've missed early registration, not all-out registration.. This means you will not get the complimentary t-shirt.... I was out of country and missed early registration as well. If it helps, I'll buy you a shirt to take home. Thanks for showing your support. We'll see you there.
