Question A Newbie who needs Help/Advice

So I purchased 1955 the Olds Super 88, & I found out that the original engine was swapped out for a 403 cu. in. (6.6 liter) V8, now I want to get the engine gasket set (exhaust manifold & oil filter housing ) but when I called the company they wanted to know the year of my engine & that I don't know, so my question is, is there something on the engine that can tell me the exact year so I can purchase the gasket set? or do I even need the year? i put the number on the engine
557265 4B but I'm not getting the exact year if someone can help I would really appreciate it

# on the engine

Check here for the year. The 2nd digit should tell you the year.

What Dave said. There maybe a short power steering bracket covering the spot where the # is.

The 403 was made for three years, from 1977 to 1979, and they all use the same parts, so you really don't have to know the exact year yours was made in order to get the correct parts.

^^^THIS. Every 403 built uses the same gasket set. Unfortunately, auto parts store personnel are incapable of thinking. They only know how to type an application into the computer. I'm surprised they didn't ask you for the VIN.

FelPro FS8507 is the complete gasket set for the Olds 403. Note that it does not include the metal intake gasket. You'll need MS96027 for that.

The two black triangular gaskets at bottom center in the first photo. One is for RWD and one is for Toro applications. If that's the only gasket you need, it's FelPro 9948, a whole $1.37 at RockAuto. That gasket fits every RWD Olds V8 from 1964-1990.

How would you know if your car is RWD? Also what does Toro mean? And my apologies for asking so many Questions.

I hope you know if your car is Rear Wheel Drive or not. Olds Toronados were front wheel drive. The oil filter adapter was different, thus the different gasket. If your oil filter hangs roughly straight down, the adapter is from a RWD car. If it angles towards the front of the car, it is from a Toro.
