I feel your pain. I spent 2 years of my teenage life saving up to get my car painted, and it got side swiped a few weeks after it was finished.
Never washed it again.
The world is too chaotic to have nice things. That's the lesson I learned.
I'll keep an eye out.

Glad you are okay though - car protected you well. It could always been worse, but glad it was not. After a day or two, you will feel better. Crap happens and to everybody, too.

As long as there is no frame damage, it will be a straightforward DIY repair project.
If you have to replace an A-arm, it is good time to replace bushings and ball joints if they are over 10 years old.

DO REPLACE the upper A-arm to frame bolts if the front wheel took a hard hit as you are suggesting. They are stressed enough from alignment gorillas and an impact could stress them almost to the breaking point. I found it is BAD when one does break.........
Your tire may have some hidden damage too, maybe put the front tires on the back, in case it develops a sudden bulge or something.

Best of luck in the repair!

Not for a 68 from what I have seen 70-72 fenders 250-400 doors 150-250 for good used. You may be able to find for less but you have to look hard and wait for right deal. If they are straight and rust free and you want your car back on the road as soon as possible, I would say get them.

Sorry to hear about the mishap.Glad your ok.

I had a mishap a long time ago with less damage and tweaked my frame, was repairable.

Seeins how you need control arms,Id be interested in hearing what a frame shop reports about the condition of the frame up front.

That really doesn't look that bad. Main damage is bolt on sheet metal, suspension pieces. The quarter panel repair will be the worst part, but at least you can get the car decent again with the bolt on stuff. If I find any parts this way I will let you know. Don't sweat it too bad. You will get it right again!

I've got an extra door. I thought I had a fender but haven't been able to locate the one I had in mind. If your not in a real big hurry I think you could beat that $650 price. I think Brian, 507OLDS has access to body parts. Eric, jensenracing77 has 1970-72 stuff but you could check and see if he knows where you could find 1968 parts. Price and availability all depend on what part of the country your looking in. The parts of the US where they salt the roads in the winter won't have much left. The desert Southwest will have rust free parts, but the big wrecking yards will want top dollar for their parts. Where I'm at fenders and doors are more like $150-200 for nice parts, less for something that needs work. Just some thoughts to consider. John

Wow I paid $700.00 for a rust free 68 fender a year ago, and was happy to pay it!

I paid $350 for mine with 2 BFG 235/60/15 tires shipped from PA to IL. They were VERY dirty, but cleaned up OK.

Nilsson, there's still a lot of old iron in my part of the country. Last year I didn't move fast enough and a local yard crushed a 1968 Cutlass 2 door that was straight, no engine or transmission and the interior was ratty. So price is relative to what's available and different parts of the country vary greatly. John

ouch!! it dosnt look that bad as long as the piller and frame arnt damaged your fine! when you hit low what happens is the frame sometimes bends were the control arms bolt up, youll know whan you try 2 install teh new control arms if your tire sits 2 far back or if the new control arm dosnt fit than thats BAD!!! , the quarter is a easy fix!! i would replace the door and repair the fender and quarter, if the fender is real warped than replace it 2, good luck

Man, I'm praying I don't have any frame damage!!!!!
I think I'm gonna need a fender cause it's nice and wavey!!!

I'm not sure the quarter will be that easy of a fix but I really hope I'm wrong!!!!
I'll have to get pics of the door jam!!!
It's ripped up real good, looks like it's missing a chunk of metal!!!!!!!

If you think the frame may be tweaked take it to a body shop and ask if they could take some measurements for you (or take them yourself). If it's bent it will give you nothing but problems later by tearing up tires and suspension parts.

replace the damaged suspension pieces, then take the car to an alignment shop. if they're unable to properly line up your front end, you most likely have frame damage. take it to a frame shop/collision shop, have them pull it back to specs, then go back to the alignment shop.

do all of that BEFORE worrying about fixing any of the body damage.

If they're in good shape, $650 isn't bad at all. I'd grab it and just be done with it. How low are you really going to go for 2 parts like that in really good shape?

Clean '68 stuff isn't the easiest to find.

That damage looks "down the side" & not "into the side". Your sill looks to be untouched so I'd say there's no way your frame is bent. No impact in the front either so that looks like a bolt off / bolt on repair with a little work on the quarter panel. You're lucky.... as far as bad luck goes.

The best way is to take it to a shop. Aiignment is a good idea and it is cheap.
