Looking at high mileage suburban
Looking for a family hauler for vacations and weekend kids activities. A buddy works for a limo service. They have a 2010 Suburban Lt with 230k miles. It's a clean ride but the miles are above avg. The 5.3 has a great rep. They have all maintenance records from 2012 when they bought it. Thoughts? I will not buy new or have a large payment. Thanks.

230k miles is quite high for a gasoline engine. Why not get an older one for less with lower miles? Check this one out, I found it in less than 5 minutes.

I'm not sure about 250k miles. My 04 has 180k and is still running well. It is starting to rust out and is definitely showing its age. But like you I acn't spend the money on a new one. My car is probably worth $3- $4k, but to get the same loaded LT version today would cost me $79. These engines do last a long time but for the last 4 years I have spent about a grand each year on maintenance - tires one year, full pump one another, brake lines the next, keeps adding up but a grand a year is cheaper than $600 a month. FYI, its a great family hauler, mine is 8 seats and the back holds a lot. 2010 is a nice year. If you can look for the 2014 or is it 2015 where the seats fold flat - more room if you need it to double as a work truck.

I have an 07 suburban 2500 series that I use for towing and hauling the family around. When looking for a used one I talked with a couple of OPP ( same as state troupers) and found out that they deal them at 350K miles because this is the point in time when the truck becomes wore out. Every one I checked out with high mileage was an ex cop unit and just over the 350 mark. I eventually found one that was D.O.D (dept of defence) with 100K on it and I bought it.
The price of the one I bought was high compared to the high mileage but in my opinion I'll never get to the 350K mark so the heavy repairs shouldn't be required. After 3 years I'm sitting at 190K.
Just my thoughts.

if your looking look for a yukon denali they have the 6.2 and up til i think it was 2011 they did not have the afm system, this is a cylinder deactivation from 8 to 4 cyl while cruising.but by doing this they are hard on rings and will drink oil like a sailor.alot of people have done an afm delete and have cured alot of the oil consumption,i have kinda been looking for the newer 07 -13 body style but don't like that the middle seat does not fold flat, hell for hauling sheetrock or plywood.

There are plenty of examples of these out there that are high miles, so obviously the engine is a winner. My sister has a Yukon they have owned since new that has over 300k miles and no engine problems ever. However, the transmission had to be replaced and also the transfer case and diff. Looks like crap on the inside, as it has been through a few big dogs and multiple babies/kids, but at least she has no payment. Considering the cost of a new model today it would be tough to give one of these up if still running fine.
