Has anyone ever tried the Auto Saver system to prevent rust?
Seen this installed on a new Toyota while visiting a mechanic friend at work.
Anyone have any personal experience with this? I wonder if it works and how well.
Thinking about trying it on my daily driver.
thanks

This system has been around for at least twenty years.
I have no personal experience with it, but always ASSumed it was one of those semi-scams that is based on a valid scientific theory, but, because of the intervention of pesky facts, doesn't really work as advertised.
I'm prepared to be proven wrong, though.

I have one of these devices. Mine is named CounterAct. The CounterAct web site is here -
CounterAct
I wrote about it in my newsletter, Car Collector Chronicles, in July of 2009. You will find that issue here -
Car Collector Chronicles 07-09. One's that work are not cheap! I am happy with mine. It is installed on a 1997 Nissan D-21 Hardbody PU Truck, that is parked outside throughout the harsh WI winters.
I do have to say, it will not permanently stave off the inevitable. It most definitely does delay it though. My bottom line is, use has convinced me it is NOT a scam.

I work in a auto repair shop in Indiana. I read this post the other day and today had a Windstar van in the shop. It had the Auto Saver system on it. The van was severely rusted out below the doors and around the rear fenders. The van had about 70K on it and i dont know how long the system had been on it. I cannot say whether it was working or not but it didnt look good.

It might work well on a new car, problem is you can never see the rust as it can hide almost anywhere.
On an older car, unless it was dipped during a ground up total restoration would be almost senseless.
Rust never sleeps.

I won't say I'm an expert in this subject, but I work for an engineering firm and we had a fellow engineer from another one of our offices come to do a presentation on cathodic protection. Corrosion is this girl's career. Anyway, she was saying that these devices can't work because you need an electrolyte in a cathodic protection system. She said basically you'd have to have your car submerged in a salt-water solution in order for the device to work.
