GM Carlisle Friday Any Good?
#2
My experience is that Saturday will be best for seeing cars. I don't see much difference in the swap meet from Friday to Saturday and the vast majority of it is Chevrolet anyway. I did find a near mint 64 Starfire grille there a couple years back, so there's treasure to be discovered.
We'll be there Friday and till about noon Saturday, as spectators.

Joe thats a great idea. I'll be there with 2 friends in my 69 flat top wagon. Because I'v never met anyone else from this site, and Im sure I'll be the only blue 69 Cutlass wagon there, please stop by my car at noon, Id love to meet anyone else from the site thats going to be there.

I will be going Saturday as well. I won't be driving my convert because my friend needs a rear bumper for his 64 Skylark! The ride for that day is my 97 GMC Suburban K2500. I don't post that often but I read all you guys stuff quite frequently! If you see the truck its black cherry metallic with Ski-Doo and NHRA stickers on it, say Hello!

I'll have a pale yellow t shirt from our 2008 August All-GM car show. On the back are a series of 1968 cars, including a 68 H/O. Also a black 442 hat. I'll be driving the crewcab dually, however, in anticipation of hauling parts back home.

Went to the show today(Friday). What a waste of time and money!! Took 2hrs 45 min travel in each direction, not to mention Turnpike tolls, parking fee and entrance cost, and only 2 hours to see all the vendors and the 7 Oldsmobiles there plus 2 in the selling area. Only 1 vendor was selling Olds stuff. It will be a long time before I go again.

Just got back from Carlisle (Saturday).
I'm sorry you feel that way, but don't expect to see large flashing neon signs saying "OLDS PARTS". In fact, I find the best deals on Olds parts at vendors who are NOT Olds specialists...
I saw numerous vendors selling Olds parts, including one large Chevy specialty house with repro 1970 cutout bumpers. Granted there are more Olds items at Spring and Fall, but the swap area is probably ten times larger. I snagged a 1.25" front anti-sway bar for $25 and an Olds HEI distributor body for $5 late in the day on Saturday.
I will say that I was somewhat disappointed with the swap area in general. There seemed to be fewer vendors than last year. There were definitely more than seven Oldsmobiles on the show field on Saturday. I saw Rocketraider and got to meet WTony and Kid442. Tony's 69 flattop is absolutely beautiful in the daylight. My only regret is that his dark blue metallic paint is a custom mix - I wanted to use it on my 84! The slope back 1978 444 is not one you see often. There were a couple of G-body 442s for sale, and LOTS of 68s for some reason. The L33 rumble seat coupe in the Building T display was very nice. Naturally, there were about twenty gazzillion Camaros, however.
I'll leave you with the following picture taken in the show area. No comment needed.

We got back here tonight around 8 and I have realised that my bud keeps the seat of his Buick wagon about 1 notch too far forward for me to really be comfortable. I mean, after all, most B-body Olds wagons I see have a 60/40 seat. Me **** is hurting after that 6 hour run! Well, we did take an hour and a half lunch break at Cracker Barrel in Winchester VA...
Ran into Joe P, and saw Stickman's wagon there yesterday but did not see him. Talked with Darrell (oldskl69) Friday over in the Riviera show area (he has an absolutely stunning 63), and got to talk with several Olds owners today too. I think the Blue-Gray guys told me there was a final tally of 31 Oldsmobiles, which ain't bad til you consider the Riviera crowd brought 27 Rivieras! and there were more Fieros than I have ever seen in one place at one time- I expect there were 70-75 of them. Another car GM didn't figure out what to do with until it was too late.
Let's not talk about all those "new" Camaros that were everywhere you went. Somebody likes 'em though I still can't understand why. That damn ugly front end reminds me of the Joker, the way that grille smirks. Then that TransAM abortion Lingenfelter built off that platform- it looks like a train with a cowcatcher.
Bill Mitchell is probably about to spin out of his grave.
Overall I think it was a pretty good run. I got a pair of 74-77 Cutlass taillight housings that had the softest rubber fillers I think I've ever seen, and a bunch of old stock light bulbs that the numbers have been obsolete for 20 years or longer.
One of my buds found a pair of uncracked grilles for his 66 Bonneville Brougham, and the other scored a pair of vintage Goodyear Blue Streak cheater slicks for his 69 Torino Cobra's "2nd day period correct" restoration.
Yah, you sometimes have to think out of the box to find Oldsmobile stuff, and you will get the best deals from vendors who don't know for sure what it is or who just want it out of the way and not have to tote it home.
Food was great, trip was great. We went to supper in Gettysburg Friday night and messed around the Battlefield a while. We were up in the Pennsylvania Monument and heard a fife and drum downstairs. When we got back to ground level a father and son re-enactor team from Ohio was playing Civil War era tunes. The kid was part of the OSU drum line and he was good. Didn't hurt that they were in Confederate grey... Excellent!

Sorry I missed you guys today. Damn migraines struck again. I was out yesterday and it seems my cooling issues are continuing. I went to leave and got out onto I 81 and the traffic just stopped and the temp just kept climbing. Almost to 250F. I made a rash decision to cross the median to get to the other side otherwise it was either pull over and wait however long for the car to cool off and the traffic to move. Or go the other way and get some air into the radiator. As soon as I was back on the other side the temps came down but now I had to find a way home that did not involve Harrisburg. Yea good luck with that. I went very far out of my way to get home. But like I said I woke up with a bad migraine. By the time it calmed down it was to late to see much of anything. I did go out for a bit as the wife went to an auction down the street and the sun just killed me. Not sure if it was because I got to much yesterday, I am not used to it from being inside so much, or It was just really bad today. Maybe a combination. SO even if I had made it I wouldn't have been great. Just really sucks as I really wanted to be there and chat up a bunch of people. I also have another unforeseen problem with my car. Seems the breather was filling up with oil and spitting it out. I guess it needs a baffle which is odd since these are taller than the last ones and they had no problem like this. Guess I will have to take them off and epoxy something in there. I hope someone took pics.

Sorry you weren't feeling well Stickman. Hopefully I'll catch you at another show. Glad I got to meet Rocketraider, nice taking to you. Here's some show pics I took of the Olds I saw:
