Fresh Dyno results using Bernard Mondello Heads

69 Olds 400 CI stock bottom end with abot 5k miles on rebuild (aleged, I bought this car some 18 years ago and have not put many miles on her since).
Bernard Mondello supplied:
his Pro Comp heads
Howard roller set/ lifters/rockers/cam/guides/pushrods 219@.050I 229@.050E 110 lobe center .523I/.512E I put 2* advance on the crank gear
Cloyes timing set
Edelbrock performer intake
Quick Fuel 750 elec choke, manual secondaries/ 1" plastic spacer. We took some jet out based on the A/F dyno reading (forgot to check what we wound up with)
DUI distributor & wire set 12* 32* total advance
ARH stainless headers

I must say with all the crap I read on these sites Bernard was most patient with me. I asked lots of stupid questions and got straight answers. The last time I took an engine apart I was 19 so I did not assume and tried not to leave much to chance. Bernard delivered on everything he said he would do & we had a few good laughs along the way. The dude at Howard was abrasive & a bit of a butt head. The boys at DUI very helpful, same with QFT. Anyone in the S. Florida area I highly recommend Mike at Total Engine Concepts...we had a few hicups on the pulls but got it rectified carried on & he did not hammer me for extra time.

Any of you back yard builders I HIGHLY recommend spending the $$ & put it on a dyno before she goes back in the car.

stock flat top pistons alleged 030" over. I measured 4.028". We had to take some jet out of the carb based on the A/F #...In all the hubub I forgot to ask what is in there. I posted the cam #'s on "Ralys" board for anyone interested.

too true about the 5k....I was a bit wary on the oil pressure. Even though I am a short hop to Moroso I have no plan to put in a roll bar or drive shaft loop. It will mainly be used to take my dog to the beach (top down).
on another topic a couple of gas stations now sell "marine fuel 90 octane NO ETHANOL". I was thinking of using that along with 5gal of VP mix....any thoughts??

I don't see any need for the VP mix. Just run premium and you should be fine. Pretty decent numbers for a small bore 400.

Uh...

Stock bore on a 69 G-block is 3.890. 4.028 is a tad more than "0.030 over"...

If 4.028 is the real bore, displacement is 433 cu in.

Last edited by joe_padavano; November 19th, 2013 at 07:03 AM. Reason: Typo on displacement

How did you measure the bore?

wooooow, quite frankly I did not write down the exact cylinder bore measure & was going by memory. Since I was not messing with the bottom end all I was looking for was consistency in each hole. I used the same digital caliper used to obtain my pushrod length.

Thanks Charlie, I sheepishly have to admit I am enjoying most my current daily driver which is not listed. 2010 370Z with Stillen intake, exhaust & uprev. A poormans Porsche and sooo much fun to drive. Wish I still had the Anglia but I'd probably be dead. Never could quite get it to straight for a full 1/4 mile.
