Flip down rear license plate bracket upgrade?
I hate the factory spring loaded license holder. Is there a bolt on application that isn't spring loaded? I put a F body non spring loaded bracket on my G body, they should have been like this from the factory. I will double check but pretty sure the G body has different spacing on the mount holes.

Get a F body license plate bracket, make sure you get the flip up headlight actuator while your stripping parts. Then figure out how to adapt the actuator to flip the plate. Hopefully you watched lots of McGuyver when you were younger!

That will flip it down. It won't bring it back up. The street rod community has solved this problem.

Yeah, but if you were a MANAGER, you'd not only apply someone else's work, you'd take credit for it.

I like the rear flip up plate, It's just another of the things that are "old school ". People at the gas station take a double take when they see me fill it. Part of the experience...

Yeah I will do a comparison today, got side tracked. The B bodies also have these supposedly. The F body stays down and up, simple but works, so much nicer to fuel. Sorry, the factory was stupid with this design. It no doubt done because some people would leave the plate down, the mouse trap spring prevents it. I had a 81 Delta 88, maybe it was that way, can't remember. The 70 has a wide mounting band. The F and G body has smaller mounting tabs, so unless they are close, modifications will be needed to work.

I should clarify the F body bracket is spring loaded, just kind of clicks in place on the down position and doesn't snap up. One spring on the inside on the driver's side. That is what I thought on the B body just the rumor out there. The A body mounts further in, the F and G body further out. I will need a flat bar to first bolt the F body plate to and then mark and drill for the A body mounting points. Not hard but not bolt on either. The cap is a real POS to get off on my 70S so too hands are better with one not holding the stupid license plate.

Brand new cap, always been a difficult remove, daughter lost the original. Try a F body license plate bracket, it is sweet. One of those, where have you been all my life moments. I even have a ball hitch in the way and still works. The 70 is at a PIA angle which makes it much more annoying to fill than the B or G bodies. I can hardly wait, a lot of time to **** around plus with the 403 stroker I am building, gas ups will be more often.

All those years I used the rear bumper, drop down license plate door to get to the filler cap on all those old GM cars.....and I never knew I had an issue with it. Well, at age 67 it probably won't bother me to use it as is for a few more years...LOL! Then, it will be someone else's problem! Imagine the issues the kids today would have with the gas filler behind the tail light like the 55-56-57 Chevrolets:

I lived with it, then saw people using the F body plate on G bodies, 2 minute swap. The little shitty cap doesn't work as well as the big cap on the G bodies to hold the door, plus the angle isn't as nice. Don't knock it till you try it.

I’ve never really considered the spring loaded plate to be all that much of an issue. Once upon a time ago, I had an electric blue, four speed ‘81 Z28 that had one of these “fill-n-go” gas caps. Maybe that would make your life less stressful.😊

It’s a little funky to use a tire pressure gauge and then an air hose and chuck to fill up my air shocks but I make it happen! I actually feel a few decades younger when I’m filling up the gas!
