epay seller "chevs4ev" not entirely honest

What a surprise, right?

Selling an Olds V8 timing set, so you can be 100% original for $170
item 190941263339

What he fails to mention is that those are the slimmer SMALL BLOCK parts. Yes, they will fit on a big block, but since he is aware that there is a difference, and still neglects to mention that in the ad.... what ELSE is he being deceitful about?

Buyer beware
Always look up PN's yourself rather than trust the seller for accurate info.
==================================
Ad text:
Up for sale is a new, nos, very hard to find original GM nylon timing chain set for 1964-90 Oldsmobile Vehicle's with a V8 engine! The nos part number's and group#'s are 401584(chain), 0.724, 382880(crank gear), 0.728, 381263(camshaft gear), 0.736. The timing chain set is nos, has never been used, and come with two original GM boxes. This fit's 1964-90 Oldsmobile 330, 350, 400, 455 V8 engine's. This timing set would be needed for that 1000 point restoration project on that 1964-87 Olds Cutlass 442! Keep that GM all original with genuine GM Nos Parts! Thanks and good luck! Shipping quoted is for the USA only! Payment by paypal or upon arrival! Payment expected in three days or less! Buyer is responsible for making sure items fit their application! Email with questions or concerns!"

His reply to an alert that the part are for SB's:
[No questions or answers have been posted about this item.]

"Dear *the*rocketscientist,
You may claim to be a Rocket Scientist but these are the parts that GM sold to replace your original timing set that probably was the wider design. If you went to your local GM Parts Dept in 1984 to buy a new timing set for your 1970 Olds 442 455 this is what they sold you. GM replacement parts were not always the exact same as the original parts. The original parts usually were better because for warranty issues but the replacement parts were not always up to the factory original standards. My GM Olds Catalogs say these parts fit 350, 403, 455 engines so thats why my listing says what it says. I am sure GM made the newer sets thinner to cut costs and all Olds Big Block engines were not high performance or heavy duty either. "

Heh, he can't even get my title right.

This is the part I like:

This timing set would be needed for that 1000 point restoration project on that 1964-87 Olds Cutlass 442!

Is somebody going to pull your timing cover to see? And, we all know the nylon tooth gears are not that great. What a crock.

He gets defensive right away huh? So his definition of a 1000 point restoration includes parts that are "not always the exact same as original parts"? I've got no problem with somebody getting premo prices for rare or nos stuff. But let's stick to one set of facts at a time huh? Can't even see the damn thing. Double roller here I come!

I wouldn't put a flawed design BACK on my engine.

It's not that bad a design, for 8 or 10 years of quiet service.

But, let's not pretend that we don't know that these are SMALL BLOCK parts, not original big block parts.

Does that little extra width make a difference? sure it does. You *could* make a timing set out of bicycle chain, and it'd last... maybe a week. Generally, we like to use robust parts, and a big block used a fatter chain and sprockets.

Nobody is asking for rage- just be aware that sellers OFTEN conveeeeniently fail to disclose what may be critical details, even though they know the difference.

If I sell a cracked intake on epay, I point that out numerous times, in brightly colored text. ANY flaws or detrimental facets.

He's kinda right. The big block sets are tougher to find, and for the later 455's they did use the same lighter duty ones as the small block.

Fit? yes. Heavy duty? No friggin' way.

My opinion? Light duty means single roller chain, heavy duty means double roller.
