Electric Choke wiring

Since almost everyone recommended a 7111 intake and an electric choke on the carb, that is what I bought. 6 weeks of waiting from Jegs and I-5 and now my engine is complete. Can someone give me a quick and dirty on the choke circuit? There were no instructions and no wires, and no gasket. I am assuming this is pretty straight forward, but I don't know whether the choke works on heat or a switch, solenoid or what? When I am asking these questions you must realize I am nearly finished with a nightmare of an engine swap! There are some things that appear usable from Buick to Olds, like the pulleys and P steering bracket... Oh to be a welder!!!

The electric choke has a heating element that needs to be connected to a 12 Volt source that is active when the ignition is turned on. The element grounds through the carb body, so DO NOT use a gasket between the choke and the carb. I wired the choke to the IGN terminal on the fuse block as that's about as simple as you can get. Joe P has posted how to wire it through an oil pressure switch so that the choke is powered only when the engine is running, which is a very good idea.

Joe's instructions are thorough and work very well. I've been using it for years.

That is great info. Thank you. 12V is not that easy for most of us, but when you follow directions and pay attention to the details, all works out great!
